Background: Anterior open bite is a challenging condition for pediatric dentists and orthodontists as it causes aesthetic, speech, feeding, and psychological problems; this emphasizes the need for early diagnosis and interception of this malocclusion.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of prefabricated metal-bonded tongue tamers and customized bonded spurs in the early treatment of anterior open bite.

Materials And Methods: A sample of seventy-five children aged 7-9 years were assigned into three groups in which anterior open bite was treated using tongue tamers (group-I), customized composite bonded spurs(group-II), and conventional fixed palatal cribs (group-III).

Article Synopsis
  • Estimating human chronological age is crucial in forensic science, and this study compares skeletal maturation and dental mineralization methods for accuracy in Egyptian children and adolescents.
  • The research included 176 participants aged 8-16, analyzing radiographs with the Fishman and Nolla methods, revealing that both are valid age predictors but Nolla outperformed Fishman.
  • Nolla slightly underestimated age while Fishman overestimated it, and the study recommends using only the Nolla method for age estimation, as it provides the most reliable results without needing additional radiographic assessments.

Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors are primarily used in the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary hypertension, but have also been reported to have a potential therapeutic effect for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). This is likely to be through stimulation of nitric oxide (NO)/cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) signaling by elevating cGMP, a secondary messenger involved in processes of neuroplasticity. In the present study, we evaluated the efficacy of a novel PDE5 inhibitor, RF26, using P301S tauopathy mice model.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of endoscopic examinations after acute diverticulitis, focusing on the rates of colorectal cancer and other malignancies.
  • A total of 1,120 patients were analyzed, with low rates of cancer found in those with uncomplicated diverticulitis (0.14%), while higher rates were observed in those with complications (up to 5.4%).
  • The results suggest that routine endoscopic investigations have limited value in uncomplicated cases, but should be considered for complicated cases or when suspicious findings arise.

Rehabilitation of pulpotomized primary molars with an appropriate restoration is essential for recovering function and safeguarding the durability of the treatment. This study aimed to assess and compare the surface roughness of stainless steel (ST) crowns, zirconia (ZR) crowns, fiberglass (FG) crowns, and lithium disilicate (LD) endo-crowns as a restoration for pulpotomized primary molars also, evaluating the surface roughness of their antagonists. Sixty pulpotomized primary mandibular first molars were used for qualitative surface roughness evaluation and divided into four groups (n = 15/group) according to the crown type (group-ST, group-ZR, group-FG, group-LD).

Mice transgenic for human P301S tau protein exhibit many characteristics of the human tauopathies, including the formation of abundant hyperphoshorylated tau filaments, the associated neuroinflammation and disease phenotype. However, the exact underpinning mechanisms are still not fully addressed that hinder our understanding of the tauopathy diseases and the development of possible therapeutic targets. Methods: In the current study, hippocampus from three disease time points (2, 4 and 6 months) of P301S mice were further characterized in comparison to the age and sex matched control wild type mice (WT) that do not express the transgene.

Objectives: The complex root canal anatomy of primary teeth keeps it very tricky to attain appropriate cleansing by biomechanical instrumentation, so obtaining an obturating material with excellent antimicrobial properties is a challenge in current clinical pulpectomy practice. So, this study aimed to assess the clinical and radiographic performance of zinc oxide-ozonated olive oil as a primary root canal filling material.

Materials And Methods: Ninety non-vital primary molars in children ranging from 4 to 8 years were allocated into three groups in which root canals were filled with zinc oxide-ozonated olive oil, zinc oxide-olive oil, and zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) according to each group after pulpectomy procedure.

A new quinochalcone -glycoside featuring a unique quinonoid moiety, named celochalcoside (), was isolated from the -butanol extract of the aerial parts of L. The structure was determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis as well as mass spectrometric data. Compound showed moderate cytotoxic activities against breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7), colon cancer cell lines (HT-29) and hepatocellular carcinoma cell lines (HepG2) with IC values of 23.

Introduction: The success of primary teeth pulpectomy is strongly reliant on instrumentation techniques and their impact on obturation quality & postoperative pain. Recently, pediatric rotary file systems have been implemented.

Aim: to compare two pediatric rotary file systems (Kedo-S-Square & Fanta AF™ Baby) with manual K-files concerning obturation quality, instrumentation time, and postoperative pain in root canal preparation of primary molars using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).

Background: Dental caries initiates with non-cavitated enamel lesions as the first stage. The cariogenic potential of N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) may be due to its usage frequency and form. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of exposure time of NAC on initial enamel caries-like lesions in primary teeth by assessing the morphological alteration using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and mineral content using energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDX).

Background: Cameriere's original formula based on open apex measurements is a reliable, clinically applicable method for dental age estimation in different populations children. Dental development may differ between Egyptian children and other ethnic populations which may affect dental age accuracy using Cameriere's formula.

Aim: Firstly, to verify Cameriere's original formula on large Egyptian children sample, secondly, to develop an Egyptian-specific formula based on Cameriere's method.

Background And Objective: Tauopathy is a group of neurodegenerative diseases in which the pathogenesis processes are related to tau protein. The imbalances between the activities of kinases and phosphatases of tau protein lead to tau hyperphosphorylation and subsequent neurodegeneration. Numerous studies suggest a strong linkage between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) and neurodegenerative diseases.

Leigh syndrome (LS) is a common neurodegenerative disease affecting neonates with devastating sequences. One of the characteristic features for LS is the phenotypic polymorphism, which-in part-can be dedicated to variety of genetic causes. A strong correlation with mitochondrial dysfunction has been assumed as the main cause of LS.

Leigh syndrome (LS) is one of the most puzzling mitochondrial disorders, which is also known as subacute necrotizing encephalopathy. It has an incidence of 1 in 77,000 live births worldwide with poor prognosis. Currently, there is a poor understanding of the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of the disease without any available effective treatment.

Tauopathy is a pathological hallmark of many neurodegenerative diseases. It is characterized by abnormal aggregates of pathological phosphotau and somatodendritic redistribution. One suggested strategy for treating tauopathy is to stimulate autophagy, hence, getting rid of these pathological protein aggregates.

Article Synopsis
  • Current chemotherapeutic agents often lead to drug resistance in cancers like breast cancer, prompting the need for new treatment options.
  • The study focuses on the effects of deoxyrhapontigenin (DR), a stilbene derivative from Rheum undulatum L., on chemoresistant breast cancer cells (MCF-7/adr) and their parental counterparts (MCF-7).
  • Findings indicate that DR causes cellular changes including ER stress and increased apoptosis, suggesting it may be a promising compound for overcoming resistance in breast cancer therapies.
