Research issues in preparedness for mass casualty events, disaster, war, and terrorism.

This article provides a perspective on the types of research questions that might be explored and strategies used in relation to disaster,terrorism, and mass casualty events. Research is addressed in the context of three areas of focus: issues related to the health care provider; issues affecting the patient, individual, family, and community; and issues related to the health care system.

Collaboration: leadership in a global technological environment.

Although collaboration is not a new idea, new opportunities for collaboration exist in this 21st century global-knowledge and information-driven economy. Technology has reduced time and space while enhancing communication, thereby opening the possibilities of exploring new boundaries in the area of interdisciplinary collaboration. The goal of this article is to assist leaders in changing the language of organizations so that new technologies can enhance collaboration.

Women's early warning symptoms of acute myocardial infarction.

Background: Data remain sparse on women's prodromal symptoms before acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study describes prodromal and AMI symptoms in women.

The devastating effects from cardiovascular disease are the largest contributors to employers' health care costs, insurance premiums, disability insurance, and worker's compensation. The purpose of this study was to establish baseline data regarding physiological outcomes comparing two participant groups in a corporate wellness program. Results suggest that a corporate wellness program can be beneficial in assisting employees to improve their health behaviors and outcomes.

Innovative strategies for promoting clinical scholarship: a holistic approach.

The article discusses a holistic approach to clinical scholarship by examining dimensions of scholarship and patterns of knowing. Innovative clinical teaching strategies in relation to these dimensions of scholarship and patterns of knowing are identified. Experiential learning, content mapping, and portable patient problem packs are explored.
