Purpose: Early assessment of renal allograft function post-transplantation is crucial to minimize and control allograft rejection. Biopsy - the gold standard - is used only as a last resort due to its invasiveness, high cost, adverse events (e.g.

Methods: In the French Cohorte des consultants des Centres d'examens de santé (CONSTANCES) cohort, 41 854 participants aged 45- years completed a self-reported, lifetime occupational exposure questionnaire. Exposure to solvents (gasoline for hand washing, trichloroethylene, white spirit, cellulosic thinner) was first considered as a binary variable (exposed/not exposed).
Background: Although bone tumors are common pathologies in companion animals, limited reports describe nasal osteosarcoma (OSA) in cats.
Case Description: A case of nasal OSA in a local Libyan cat was admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tripoli-Libya, with nasal swelling and discharges and facial deformity. The radiological findings revealed nasal osteolysis with the absence of evidence of lung metastasis.
Purpose: To determine if combining clinical, demographic, and imaging data improves automated diagnosis of nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR).
Design: Cross-sectional imaging and machine learning study.
Methods: This was a retrospective study performed at a single academic medical center in the United States.

While simple tools such as the sphygmomanometer are widely used to diagnose hypertension, they could not predict the disease before its onset. Clinical studies suggest that alterations in the structure of human brains' cerebrovasculature start to develop years before the onset of hypertension.

Patients with failed medical treatment, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS) >13, peak urinary flow rate ()<15 mL/s and prostate size ≥80 g were enrolled in this randomized controlled trial from November 2016 to February 2018 and managed by HoLEP (Group A; 33 patients) or BPEP (Group B; 31 patients). Patients on anticoagulants (AC) were not excluded.

Secondary aims were to examine the association between RLS with the cognitive-affective and somatic-vegetative disturbances experienced as part of depression and GAD.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of 1493 elderly participants (median age 80.
Background/objectives: The associations of reproductive history and motor function are controversial.
Design: Prospective cohort study with 10 years of follow-up.
Setting: Three French cities between 1999 and 2011.
Early colonization by beneficial bacteria stimulates the function and development of the digestive tract, on which the performance and vitality of broilers rely. This experiment evaluated the effects of in ovo injection of bifidobacteria on the performance, thyroid activity, bacterial enumeration, and ileal histomorphometry of broiler chickens. A total of 360 fertile eggs were inoculated into the yolk sac, on day 17 of embryogenesis, and allocated to six experimental groups: negative control (not injected, G1), positive control (injected with sterilized distilled water, G2), and groups inoculated with 2 × 10 CFU of Bifidobacterium bifidum, G3; B.

Previous studies, mostly from the United States, showed an increased risk of motor neuron disease (MND) in military personnel. We compared MND incidence rates in French military personnel to that in the general population. Among persons covered between 2010 and 2016 by the (CNMSS, military personnel) and the (CNAMTS, general population) aged ≥50 years, we identified incident MND cases and estimated populations at risk using national health insurance databases.

To date, there are no available algorithms that contribute to the selection of scES parameters for facilitating standing in this population. Here, we introduce a novel framework for EMG data processing that implements spectral analysis by continuous wavelet transform and machine learning methods for characterizing epidural stimulation-promoted EMG activity resulting in independent standing.

Objective: To investigate whether reserve plays a role in the severity and progression of motor, cognitive, and nonmotor PD symptoms by examining whether education level (proxy of reserve) is associated with baseline performance and rate of progression.
Methods: We used data from a longitudinal cohort of PD patients (≤5-year disease duration at baseline) annually followed up to 5 years (n = 393; 41% women; mean age = 62.
A filtered Rayleigh scattering system is developed and applied to measure the mole fraction of methane in a methane-air swirl flow through a transparent conical quartz quarl. Light scattering from the location where the laser beam is incident on the surface of the quarl is orders of magnitudes larger than Rayleigh scattering from the gas mixture of interest. This diffusive scattering is suppressed using molecular absorption by an iodine cell and using spatial filtering by an optical aperture.

Non-invasive evaluation of renal transplant function is essential to minimize and manage renal rejection. A computer-assisted diagnostic (CAD) system was developed to evaluate kidney function post-transplantation. The developed CAD system utilizes the amount of blood-oxygenation extracted from 3D (2D + time) blood oxygen level-dependent magnetic resonance imaging (BOLD-MRI) to estimate renal function.

The system uses a pulse-burst laser as the light source and back-illuminated electron-multiplied CCD cameras as the detectors. The cameras are operated in the subframe burst gating mode, to combine a high sampling rate, low noise, and a slow readout.

Cerebrovascular structural changes that occur as a result of chronically elevated cerebral perfusion pressure are hypothesized to precede the onset of systemic hypertension. Yet, the gold standard of autism diagnosis is the autism diagnostic observation schedule (ADOS). In this study, we are implementing a computer-aided diagnosis system that utilizes structural MRI (sMRI) and resting-state functional MRI (fMRI) to demonstrate that both anatomical abnormalities and functional connectivity abnormalities have high prediction ability of autism.

We developed a novel control algorithm for CFLVAD to maintain physiologic perfusion while avoiding ventricular suction using only the intrinsic pump measurement of pump speed and without utilizing model-based estimation.
Methods: The controller objective is to maintain a differential pump speed setpoint.
Leaf segmentation is significantly important in assisting ecologists to automatically detect symptoms of disease and other stressors affecting trees. This paper employs state-of-the-art techniques in image processing to introduce an accurate framework for segmenting leaves and diseased leaf spots from images. The proposed framework integrates an appearance model that visually represents the current input image with the color prior information generated from RGB color images that were formerly saved in our database.

It is necessary to detect which genes are responsible for cancer growth. This study presents an exhaustive comparative study of different machine learning (ML) systems which serves two major purposes: (a) identification of high risk differential genes using statistical tests and (b) development of a ML strategy for predicting cancer genes.

Angiogenesis is regulated in a tissue-specific manner in all patients, especially those with diabetes. In this study, we describe a novel molecular pathway of angiogenesis regulation in diabetic rats with myocardial infarction (MI) and examine the cardioprotective effects of different doses of sitagliptin. Male rats were divided into 5 groups: normal vehicle group, diabetic group, diabetic + MI, diabetic + MI + 5 mg/kg sitagliptin, and diabetic + MI + 10 mg/kg sitagliptin.
