We tested the hypothesis that xanthine oxidase inhibition among African Americans receiving the thiazide-type diuretic chlorthalidone may improve blood pressure control with fewer hyperuricemia-related side effects. We performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of African Americans with Stage 1 hypertension without clinically significant renal disease. One hundred fifty African American men or women between the ages of 18 and 65 years who met the exclusion/inclusion criteria with untreated or treated hypertension were started on chlorthalidone (25 mg/d) and potassium chloride.

In a recent retrospective trial, we documented that prophylactic use of nesiritide was associated with a 66% reduction in the odds for dialysis or in-hospital mortality at 21 days in patients undergoing high-risk cardiac surgery; therefore, we designed a prospective trial.
Methods: This prospective, randomized, clinical trial included 94 patients undergoing high-risk cardiac surgery comparing a 5-day course of continuous nesiritide (at a dose of 0.
Objective: To report the results of ventralis intermedius nucleus/ventralis oralis posterior nucleus (VIM) plus ventralis oralis anterior (VOA)/ventralis oralis posterior (VOP) thalamic deep brain stimulation (DBS) for the treatment of posttraumatic and multiple sclerosis tremor.
Objective: The treatment of posttraumatic tremor and multiple sclerosis tremor, by either medication or surgery, has proven difficult. Lesions and DBS have had mixed and somewhat disappointing results.
