Polyclonal COVID-19 convalescent plasma (CCP) may provide broader neutralizing capacity against new variants at high titers.

Background: Bacterial contamination in platelets remain a major public health concern, which prompted the US Food and Drug Administration guidance for bacterial contamination mitigation. Pathogen reduction technology (PRT) is one mitigation strategy that has shown success in Europe over the last decade. Therefore, our center sought to transition from a dual system of bacterial culturing (BacT) and PRT to full PRT.

Increasing observation rates in low-risk pediatric immune thrombocytopenia using a standardized clinical assessment and management plan (SCAMP ).

An observational approach is recommended in newly diagnosed children with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) at low risk of bleeding; however, there is no standard definition of risk. A standardized clinical assessment and management plan (SCAMP ), a modifiable practice guideline, was implemented and revised (SCAMP-1 and SCAMP-2) and applied to 71 newly diagnosed patients with ITP. The Buchanan and Adix bleeding score guided treatment and was modified by stratifying by low- and high-risk grade 3 bleeding in SCAMP-2.

Attitudes toward HPV vaccination among low-income and minority parents of sons: a qualitative analysis.

Objective: To characterize the attitudes of low-income and minority parents/guardians toward vaccinating sons against human papillomavirus (HPV).

Methods: In 2010-2011, we conducted qualitative interviews with 68 black, 24 white, and 28 Latino parents/guardians of sons. We identified attitudes related to HPV vaccination, vaccine mandates for males and females, and adolescent male sexuality using constructs from the Health Belief Model and methods based in grounded theory.
