Programmed-cell death is an antimicrobial defense mechanism that promotes clearance of intracellular pathogens. Toxoplasma counteracts host immune defenses by secreting effector proteins into host cells; however, how the parasite evades lytic cell death and the effectors involved remain poorly characterized. We identified ROP55, a rhoptry protein that promotes parasite survival by preventing lytic cell death in absence of IFN-γ stimulation.

Background/objectives: A specialized microenvironment in the bone marrow, composed of stromal cells including mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), supports hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) self-renewal, and differentiation bands play an important role in leukemia development and progression. The reciprocal direct interaction between MSCs and CD34 HSCs under physiological and pathological conditions is yet to be fully characterized.

Case Report: A rare case of Klippel-Feil syndrome associated with anterior cervical meningomyelocele is reported, treated successfully using partial cervical corpectomy, spinal cord microsurgical reinsertion into the spinal canal, and vertebral reconstruction. A 71-year-old patient presented with upper limb paraesthesia, chronic neck pain, and progressive motor distal impairment. Cervical spine imaging revealed an anterior cervical meningomyelocele digging into C7 vertebra and underlying adjacent congenital fusion blocks.

The 'Best of ESGO 2024' article includes a selection of the most highly rated original research presented during the 25th Annual Congress of the European Society of Gynaecologic Oncology (ESGO), held in Barcelona, Spain, March 7-10, 2024. Of 1218 asbtracts submitted, 35 studies presented during the best oral sessions, mini oral sessions, best three minute presentations session, and young investigator session were selected by the ESGO abstract committee and the authors of the European Network of Young Gynae Oncologists (ENYGO). There was a strong focus on the surgical treatment of early stage cervical cancer and the management of advanced or recurrent gynecological cancers using induction therapy, immunotherapy, and maintenance therapy.

Methods: The study was conducted at a tertiary cancer center between January 2016 and September 2021, and the computer synoptic operative report was implemented in May 2019. The study compared two cohorts: the first consisted of the 'before computer synoptic operative report (P1)' period, during which the operative reports were dictated freely by the surgeons, and the second consisted of the 'after computer synoptic operative report (P2)' period, during which all surgeons used the computer synoptic operative report.
