Tetragonal zirconia (t-ZrO) nanoparticles (ionophore) are used in newly designed and improved ion selective electrodes for chromium ion detection as an alternative, low-cost, high-precision, and selectivity method. Tetragonal zirconia nanoparticles were synthesized using a modified co-precipitation technique and calcined at 1000 °C for an hour. The phase composition, surface area, microstructure, pore size and particle size of synthesized t-ZrO nanoparticles were examined using the X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) attached with an EDAX unit, respectively.

The NSAID lornoxicam (LOR) drug was used for complex formation reactions with different metal salts like Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III) and Ni(II) chlorides and Fe(II), Co(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) borates. Mononuclear complexes of these metals are obtained that coordinated to NO sites of LOR ligand molecule. The nature of bonding and the stereochemistry of the complexes have been deduced from elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR, mass, electronic spectra, magnetic susceptibility and ESR spectral studies, conductivity measurements, thermogravimetric analyses (TG-DTG) and further confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction.

To test the efficacy of detecting anti-Schistosoma mansoni cysteine proteinase antibodies (CP Abs) by cystatin capture (CC) ELISA in the diagnosis of prepatent schistosomiasis (before egg passing); 253 schistosome negative individuals were selected and divided into two groups. The first comprised 118 children whose first water contact occurred in March and April 1999 (primarily infected), and the second 135 individuals were previously treated for schistosomasis (re-infected). All the individuals were followed up triweekly by stool for detecting schistosome eggs and by serological tests for detecting antibodies against CP and anti-soluble egg antigens (SEA) by ELISA technique.

The kinetic behaviour of Cl(-), Br(-) and SCN(-) exchanges on hydrous tin oxide have been investigated under conditions of particle diffusion and the limited bath technique. Values for the diffusion coefficients, energy of activation and entropy of activation have been calculated. Laser therapy can be used to great advantage in the treatment of haemangiomas in childhood in specially selected cases. We were able to collect experiences in 101 children and to utilise both the coagulation effect for percutaneous induction of regression and the cutting effect in the resection of haemangiomas at the body surface and the thoracic and abdominal cavities. Among the commercially available laser equipment we would prefer the argon laser for intracutaneous lesions (naevi teleangiectatici, spider naevi, plane haemangiomas), whereas for the cavernous or planotuberous or tuberonodous haemangiomas it is better to use the neodym-YAG laser.

With use of 24-hour ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring, the effect of 1 hour of cigarette smoking on cardiac rhythm in 73 patients with coronary heart disease was studied. Fifteen subjects had no arrhythmia; 37 subjects had fewer than 2 atrial or ventricular premature complexes (APCs or VPCs)/hour, with APCs possibly related to smoking in 2 and VPCs related to smoking in 1.
