This study was designed to improve the effectiveness and safety of two commercial insecticides, Camvaal EC 15 % (indoxacarb) and Nudrin SP 90 % (methomyl), against Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) through nanotechnology. Insecticide nanoemulsions were enhanced using nano-chitosan as a natural biopolymer.

subsp is a wild plant distributed in subtropical and east Africa extending from the north to the southern parts of Egypt. Widely used in folk medicine, it is the source of the diuretic sesquiterpene proximadiol. Nuclear magnetic resonance metabolomic analysis of polar extracts of shoots from wild, greenhouse, somatic embryos, and direct and indirect organogenic in vitro cultures was carried out.

Background: Health clinics in rural Africa are typically resource-limited. As a result, many patients presenting with fever are treated with anti-malarial drugs based only on clinical presentation. This is a considerable issue in Uganda, where malaria is routinely over-diagnosed and over-treated, constituting a wastage of resources and an elevated risk of mortality in wrongly diagnosed patients.

The present study examined the morphological features, histological and histochemical aspect of the tongue of two reptilian species, Tarentola annularis (family: Gekkonidae) and Crocodylus niloticus (family: Crocodylidea), with different habitats, feeding patterns and behaviours, by light and scanning electron microscope. It was observed, that the bifurcation of the tongue was more visible in Tarentola annularis. Conical and filamentous papillae were observed on the lingual body of Tarentola annularis, while in Crocodylus niloticus both mechanical filiform and gustatory papillae appeared.

Excessive concentrations of free radicals in the developing brain may lead to neurons maldevelopment and neurons damage and death. Thyroid hormones (THs) states play an important role in affecting the modulation of oxidative stress and antioxidant defense system. Thus, the objective of this study was to clarify the effect of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism in rat dams on the neurons development of different brain regions of their offspring at several postnatal weeks in relation to changes in the oxidative stress and antioxidant defense system.

Disruption of the interaction between the ubiquitination facilitator protein Keap1 and the cap'n'collar basic-region leucine-zipper transcription factor Nrf2 is a potential strategy to enhance expression of antioxidant and free radical detoxification gene products regulated by Nrf2. Agents that disrupt this protein-protein interaction may be useful pharmacological probes and future cancer-chemopreventive agents. We describe the structure-activity relationships for a series of peptides based upon regions of the Nrf2 Neh2 domain, of varying length and sequence, that interact with the Keap1 Kelch domain and disrupt the interaction with Nrf2.

Thyroid hormones (THs) play a crucial role in the development and physiological functioning of different body organs especially the brain. Therefore, the objective of this study was to show the histopathological effects of the different thyroid states on some brain regions (cerebrum and cerebellum) and the skeletal features of their newborns during the postnatal development from the 1st to 3rd week. The female white albino rats were allocated into 3 groups as follows: the experimental hypothyroidism group is induced by 0.

The action of thyroid hormones (THs) in the brain is strictly regulated, since these hormones play a crucial role in the development and physiological functioning of the central nervous system (CNS). Disorders of the thyroid gland are among the most common endocrine maladies. Therefore, the objective of this study was to identify in broad terms the interactions between thyroid hormone states or actions and brain development.

Unlabelled: Self-auditing is important to improve the standard of care. In a previous study (1991--1997), we reported human error and equipment factor as the two major causes leading to critical incidents. This study analyzes the computerized database and the medical records of 71 critical incidents reported in the Department morbidity and mortality meeting between 1998--2002, in an attempt to identify factors that have led to critical incidents and compare them with our previous report.

Objectives: Heparin has long been thought to be biosynthesized and stored in the granules of mast cells that are most prevalent in the lungs and gastro-intestinal tract. In response to stimuli such inflammation and trauma, mast cells degranulate and consequently release heparin. This prospective study was designed to investigate if operative trauma during lung mobilization could enhance heparin release into both the pulmonary and systemic circulations.

Objective: The aim of the study is to present the clinical pattern, surgical indication and management of primary hyperparathyroidism in a teaching hospital in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Methods: The records of patients who underwent surgical treatment for primary hyperparathyroidism at the King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh, KSA from March 1992 to October 2002 were reviewed for epidemiological data, biochemical, radiological investigation, operative procedures, histopathology result, preoperative localization studies included neck ultrasonogram, neck computerized tomography and thallium-technetium subtraction scan. All patients underwent surgery under general anesthesia and procedures were bilateral, unilateral neck exploration, or minimal invasive parathyroidectomy.

Objective: Mechanical suture (stapler) has been in use for bowel anastomosis since the second half of the 20th century, however, it became popular since it was used widely by the United States of America in the late 1960. Since it is more expensive than the conventional method, a local experimental assessment was introduced to compare stapler with conventional methods.

Methods: Eighteen local dogs were used, 36 anastomosis were assessed in the animal house operating theater of King Khalid University Hospital, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia between October 1998 and March 2000.

Objective: The object of this report is to highlight some of the less known atypical features of spinal tuberculosis (TB) in the hope of facilitating early diagnosis. Pure neural arch and sacral TB is rare and the co-existence of these two as widely separated skip lesions in the same patient is even rarer.

Clinical Presentation: An unusual case of tuberculous process affecting the sacrum as well as the neural arches of upper cervical vertebrae is presented.

Eleven consecutive laparoscopic cholecystectomies (LCs) were performed between January 1994 and June 1996 compared with seven open cholecystectomies (OCs) performed previously at King Khalid University Hospital. The comparison included surgical, clinical, and economic factors, together with a review of the literature. In the laparoscopic group the main indication for cholecystectomy was symptomatic gallstones.
