Acceptorless Dehydrogenation of Alcohols and Transfer Hydrogenation of Aldehydes in Water Using a Single Bifunctional, Bistate, Water-soluble Ruthenium Catalyst.

A water-soluble bifunctional, bistate ruthenium catalyst has been developed using the 8-aminoquinoline ligand which responds to an acid-base stimuli and is catalytically active for two complementary reactions. The "Ru-amino state" is highly active for catalytic transfer hydrogenation of various aldehydes using formic acid as the hydrogen source resulting in a range of primary alcohols. On the other hand, the "Ru-amido state" is active for the acceptorless dehydrogenation of alcohols to yield carboxylate salts or ketones.

Catalytic Oxidation of Alcohols and Amines to Value-Added Chemicals using Water as the Solvent.

Designing reactions in aqueous media has been one of the major challenges in modern organic synthesis, especially to avoid the use of large amounts of organic solvents whose disposal is a matter of grave concern from an environmental perspective. The oxidation of alcohols and amines is an essential and important step in the synthesis of many valuable products including polymers and pharmaceuticals. In recent times, there has been a surge in the use of water as a solvent in many organic reactions.

Health-Promoting Behaviors and Menopausal Symptoms: An Interventional Study in Rural India.

Background: Menopausal transition initiates with menstrual cycle length variety and finishes when last menstrual period happens. As life expectancy has increased, a menopausal woman has to spend one-third of her life span with estrogen deprivation stage that leads to major long-term symptomatic and metabolic complications.

Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study conducted on 103 menopausal women between 40 and 60 years of age residing in Ambala district, Haryana.

Severity assessment of acute pancreatitis using CT severity index and modified CT severity index: Correlation with clinical outcomes and severity grading as per the Revised Atlanta Classification.

Aims: To assess the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) using computed tomography (CT) severity index (CTSI) and modified CT severity index (MCTSI), to correlate with clinical outcome measures, and to assess concordance with severity grading, as per the revised Atlanta classification (RAC).

Materials And Methods: In this prospective study approved by the Institutional Review Board (November 2014 to March 2016), sixty patients with AP (as per the RAC definition) underwent contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT) 5-11 days (median 6 days) after symptom onset. Two radiologists, blinded to clinical parameters, independently assessed CTSI and MCTSI (differences were resolved by consensus).

Novel MEN 1 gene findings in rare sporadic insulinoma--a case control study.

Background: Insulinomas, which are rare tumors causing hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia are usually sporadic but may also occur in association with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN-1) syndrome an autosomal dominant disorder caused by MEN1 gene mutations. MEN1 encodes a nuclear protein Menin, a tumor suppressor which acts as an adapter and interacts with partner proteins involved in crucial activities like transcriptional regulation, cell division, proliferation and genome stability. This study reports on clinical findings and mutation screening in sporadic insulinoma patients.

"Anti-Mullerian Hormone: Marker for Ovarian Response in Controlled Ovarian Stimulation for IVF Patients": A First Pilot Study in the Indian Population.

Objective: To measure the levels of early follicular phase Anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) in Indian patients of IVF and to evaluate the AMH as a predictive marker of ovarian response in assisted reproductive technology outcome.

Methods: Sixty women (age 25-40 years) selected for in vitro fertilization treatment were included in this study. Analysis of day-2 serum samples was done for the AMH, FSH, Inhibin B, and LH by ELISA kit methods.

Isolated tubercular liver abscess in children treated with percutaneous isoniazid infusion.

Isolated Tubercular liver abscess is mainly reported in adult patients. We report two cases of isolated tubercular liver abscess in paediatric patients. Diagnosis was made by clinical and ultrasound guided aspiration of pus showing acid fast bacilli in one case.
