Background: In pregnancy, increased numbers of hair follicles remain in the anagen phase for longer periods due to hormonal changes and return to the telogen phase within 3-6 months of delivery with a sudden drop in hormone levels. This results in excessive shedding of hair known as post-partum telogen effluvium.
Objective: To determine the changes in the hair cycle during gestation and the post-partum period.
Lupus vulgaris is the most common morphological variant of cutaneous tuberculosis. Classical lupus lesions are often seen in the head and neck region. Turkey ear is a clinically descriptive term, previously being used for the earlobe with reddish indurated plaque lesions, which recently can be a sign for lupus vulgaris.

Objective: We sought to investigate the consistency, and factors affecting consistency, between clinical diagnoses and pathological diagnoses in patients with skin disorders referred for biopsy by dermatologists.
Methods: We retrospectively examined 3949 pathological reports of biopsy specimens, between 1999 and 2008.
Three major and three minor types of acral melanocytic lesions have been described: parallel furrow, lattice-like, fibrillar, reticular, homogeneous and globular. To examine the dermoscopic patterns of acral melanocytic lesions and to investigate the association of these patterns with clinical features. This study included 419 acral melanocytic lesions of 295 patients.

Epidemiological studies have shown that diseases associated with insulin resistance and coronary artery disease are more frequently observed in men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). We aimed to identify the presence of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome in male patients with early-onset AGA. Fifty male patients (18-30 years) with AGA stage ≥ 3 (Hamilton-Norwood scale), body mass index < 27 and 40 weight- and age-matched male subjects were the study population.

Background: Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is characterized by diffuse thinning of hair in the frontal and parietal areas of the scalp, and preservation of the frontal hairline is the norm. Hair on the occipital scalp is thought to be preserved.
Objective: To investigate whether the occipital area is involved in FPHL or whether there is a diffuse type of FPHL.
Lupus vulgaris (LV) is the most common form of cutaneous tuberculosis. It commonly presents on the head and neck regions. The diagnosis may be difficult when LV occurs at unexpected regions or in unusual clinical forms.

Environmental fungi, in particular primary pathogens and Cryptococcus spp. can be responsible for skin lesions mimicking sporotrichosis. In this paper, we report a case of subcutaneous cryptococcosis in an apparently healthy, young male patient due to a non-C.

A cross-sectional study was performed in 66 non-obese women (24-44 years old), 41 with AGA alone and 25 healthy individuals. Blood glucose, insulin, c-peptide levels, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT); insulin sensitivity and beta cell function indices derived from a single blood sample and OGTT were determined and compared in the two groups.

Hair over the occipital scalp is preserved. The purpose of this work was to investigate the findings of phototrichogram (PTG) of the affected and the spared areas in women with AGA and to compare them with those of healthy subjects.

Aim: We aimed to identify insulin resistance and its possible association with types, duration and severity of psoriasis, and to evaluate various simple insulin-sensitivity indices and beta-cell function in psoriasis.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed in 110 non-obese adults (18-50 years old): 70 with psoriasis (53 type I, 17 type II psoriasis) and 40 healthy individuals. Blood glucose, insulin and C-peptide levels were measured.
Prurigo pigmentosa is characterized by an inflammatory phase with pruritic erythematous papules and a resolution phase with reticulated pigmentation. It is not a well known entity except in Japan. We present a Turkish young man with prurigo pigmentosa treated with doxycycline.

We report a case of classical Kaposi's sarcoma involving multiple sites of the penis in a 62-year-old male who was treated with sildenafil citrate-aided electron beam therapy, resulting in complete resolution of the lesions.
