PixCUE: Joint Uncertainty Estimation and Image Reconstruction in MRI using Deep Pixel Classification.

Deep learning (DL) models are effective in leveraging latent representations from MR data, emerging as state-of-the-art solutions for accelerated MRI reconstruction. However, challenges arise due to the inherent uncertainties associated with undersampling in k-space, coupled with the over- or under-parameterized and opaque nature of DL models. Addressing uncertainty has thus become a critical issue in DL MRI reconstruction.

Intracapsular versus extracapsular tonsil surgery: Comparison of postoperative haemorrhage outcomes in the Australasian setting.

Objective: To investigate the incidence and timing of postoperative haemorrhage between intracapsular (ICT) and extracapsular tonsillectomy (ECT) techniques and evaluate factors influencing haemorrhage risk and severity.

Methods: A retrospective review of patients undergoing tonsillectomy over 5 years across otolaryngology services in Australia and New Zealand. Primary outcomes were rate and timing of post-tonsillectomy haemorrhage.

Background: Evidence on ivermectin as a treatment for Covid-19 is controversial. A Cochrane review concluded that the efficacy and safety of ivermectin is uncertain (evidence up to April 2022) and WHO recommended its use only in the setting of clinical trials. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of oral ivermectin in hospitalized patients with mild to moderate Covid-19.

McSTRA: A multi-branch cascaded swin transformer for point spread function-guided robust MRI reconstruction.

Deep learning MRI reconstruction methods are often based on Convolutional neural network (CNN) models; however, they are limited in capturing global correlations among image features due to the intrinsic locality of the convolution operation. Conversely, the recent vision transformer models (ViT) are capable of capturing global correlations by applying self-attention operations on image patches. Nevertheless, the existing transformer models for MRI reconstruction rarely leverage the physics of MRI.

Quantitative assessment of adulteration of coconut oil using transmittance multispectral imaging.

Economical to a fault, coconut oil is a commodity related to fraudulent activities such as oil adulteration for undue profits. Unfortunately, the conventional methods used in the detection of adulteration and toxicants are laborious, destructive, and time-consuming. Hence, it is imperative to engineer a non-destructive and rapid screening test with sufficient accuracy.

Deep Learning for Image Enhancement and Correction in Magnetic Resonance Imaging-State-of-the-Art and Challenges.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides excellent soft-tissue contrast for clinical diagnoses and research which underpin many recent breakthroughs in medicine and biology. The post-processing of reconstructed MR images is often automated for incorporation into MRI scanners by the manufacturers and increasingly plays a critical role in the final image quality for clinical reporting and interpretation. For image enhancement and correction, the post-processing steps include noise reduction, image artefact correction, and image resolution improvements.

Background: Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in most countries and the past two decades have shown a global increase. Hypertension (HTN) was found to be the leading risk factor in 2010 as qualified by Disability Adjusted Life Years. Epidemiological studies in this regard in Sri Lanka are scarce.

A traditional poly herbal medicine "Le Pana Guliya induces apoptosis in HepG and HeLa cells but not in CC1 cells: an in vitro assessment.

"Le Pana Guliya" (LPG) is a polyherbal formulation which is used to treat different types of cancers in traditional medicine. In this study we describe in vitro efficacy and mechanism of action of LPG on two cancer cell lines (HepG and HeLa) compared with a normal cell line CC1. The MTT, LDH assays and protein synthesis were used to study antiproliferative activity of LPG while NO synthesis and GSH content were assayed to determine the oxidative stress exerted by LPG.

A case of distal renal tubular acidosis, Southeast Asian ovalocytosis and possible fluorosis.

A 39-year old man had periodic paralysis due to hypokalaemia. Investigations led to the diagnosis of distal renal tubular acidosis (dRTA) and Southeast Asian ovalocytosis (SAO). Both can originate in mutations of the anion-exchanger 1 gene (AE1), which codes for band 3, the bicarbonate/chloride exchanger in both the red cell membrane and the basolateral membrane of the collecting tubule alpha-intercalated cell.

An unusual presentation of rhinofacial zygomycosis due to Cunninghamella sp. in an immunocompetent patient: a case report and literature review.

Zygomycosis is a rare fungal infection usually found in immunocompromised patients. It is a rapidly progressing infection with a high mortality rate. Our report describes an unusual case of rhinofacial zygomycosis due to Cunninghamella sp.
