Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on the simplest-level electron nuclear dynamics (SLEND) of the H + CH reaction at various collision energies (30, 200, and 450 eV), which is significant in astrophysics and cancer therapy research.
  • Using the PACE code with advanced atomic integrals, the research reveals multiple outcomes of the reaction, including different types of scattering and fragmentation, which are analyzed through computer simulations.
  • The SLEND method shows good agreement with experimental data for 1-electron transfer cross sections and differential cross sections, especially at 30 eV, while also providing unique insights that cannot be obtained through direct experiments.

We present the first quantum-mechanical derivation of statistical-law formulas to calculate zero- to two-electron transfers (ETs) in proton-molecule reactions. The original statistical derivation assumed that the n-ET probabilities of N electrons in a shell obey an N-trial binomial distribution with success probability equal to an individual one-ET probability; the latter was heuristically identified with the number of transferred electrons from the integrated charge density. The obtained formulas proved accurate to calculate ET cross sections in proton-molecule and proton cancer therapy (PCT) reactions.
