Diabetes stigma is the social burden of living with diabetes. People with diabetes may experience or perceive an adverse social judgment, prejudice, or stereotype about living with diabetes at work, school, in healthcare settings, popular culture, or relationships. This review describes the methods that have been used to assess diabetes stigma, and explores the prevalence of diabetes stigma, associated sociodemographic and socioeconomic factors, cultural factors, and how diabetes stigma is associated with clinical outcomes, including HbA1c levels, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe hypoglycemia, and chronic complications, in addition to psychosocial complications in youth, adolescents, and adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D).

While there is considerable overlap in the treatment of patients with intersex traits and differences in sex development (I/DSD) with transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth, the initial medical evaluation varies significantly. I/DSD youth often present due to differences in genitalia development in infancy or pubertal development in adolescence, and this leads to comprehensive biochemical, radiologic, and genetic evaluation. TGD youth, however, tend to have typical development noted at birth and during puberty, but present with a gender identity that does not align with their sex assigned at birth and do not require evaluation for underlying pathology.

Objective: To examine the association between diabetes stigma, socioeconomic status, psychosocial variables, and substance use in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: This is a cross-sectional analysis of AYAs from the SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth study who completed a survey on diabetes-related stigma, generating a total diabetes stigma score. Using multivariable modeling, stratified by diabetes type, we examined the relationship of diabetes stigma with variables of interest.

Neutrinoless double beta decay (0νββ) is a yet unobserved nuclear process that would demonstrate Lepton number violation, a clear evidence of beyond standard model physics. The process two neutrino double beta decay (2νββ) is allowed by the standard model and has been measured in numerous experiments. In this Letter, we report a measurement of 2νββ decay half-life of ^{100}Mo to the ground state of ^{100}Ru of [7.

Article Synopsis
  • The XENONnT experiment conducted the first search for nuclear recoils caused by weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) using a 5.9-ton liquid xenon detector.
  • During the experiment, the background noise from radioactive isotopes was minimized, yielding a low electronic recoil background rate of 15.8 events per ton per year per keV.
  • The analysis found no significant excess of nuclear recoil events, leading to an improved upper limit on the WIMP-nucleon interaction cross section, surpassing previous results from the earlier XENON1T experiment.

Multiple viable theoretical models predict heavy dark matter particles with a mass close to the Planck mass, a range relatively unexplored by current experimental measurements. We use 219.4 days of data collected with the XENON1T experiment to conduct a blind search for signals from multiply interacting massive particles (MIMPs).

Objective: To examine the association between diabetes stigma and HbA1c, treatment plan and acute and chronic complications in adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: The SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth study is a multicenter cohort study that collected questionnaire, laboratory, and physical examination data about AYAs with diabetes diagnosed in childhood. A five-question survey assessed frequency of perceived diabetes-related stigma, generating a total diabetes stigma score.

Purpose: To compare the efficacy of intramuscular Lupron and subcutaneous Eligard, two formulations of leuprolide, for puberty suppression in transgender and gender diverse (TGD) youth.

Methods: A retrospective chart review of TGD youth receiving Lupron or Eligard 22.5 mg every 3 months was conducted to determine hormone levels obtained 1 hour after an injection (1hrPost) and patient-reported clinical puberty suppression.

We report on a blinded analysis of low-energy electronic recoil data from the first science run of the XENONnT dark matter experiment. Novel subsystems and the increased 5.9 ton liquid xenon target reduced the background in the (1, 30) keV search region to (15.

Wound infection is traditionally defined primarily by visual clinical signs, and secondarily by microbiological analysis of wound samples. However, these approaches have serious limitations in determining wound infection status, particularly in early phases or complex, chronic, hard-to-heal wounds. Early or predictive patient-derived biomarkers of wound infection would enable more timely and appropriate intervention.

Stridor is a common presenting symptom for children in emergency departments (EDs) and usually represents an infectious process, such as croup, or aspiration of a foreign body. We present the case of an otherwise healthy 5-year-old girl with episodic increased work of breathing for several months that was initially diagnosed as asthma by her primary care physician. She subsequently presented to the ED with acutely worsening noisy breathing and dyspnea.

The CUPID-Mo experiment at the Laboratoire Souterrain de Modane (France) is a demonstrator for CUPID, the next-generation ton-scale bolometric 0νββ experiment. It consists of a 4.2 kg array of 20 enriched Li_{2}^{100}MoO_{4} scintillating bolometers to search for the lepton-number-violating process of 0νββ decay in ^{100}Mo.

Article Synopsis
  • * Data collection began in early 2019, and initial analyses revealed that KATRIN doubled the known limit on neutrino mass thanks to the excellent performance of its system components.
  • * The laser Raman monitoring system (LARA) continuously tracks the gas composition in the experiment, providing precise measurements of tritium isotopic purity, essential for accurate neutrino mass calculations, achieving greater precision than required.

Accurate characterization of particle size and particle size distributions is mandatory in nanotechnology and a broad range of colloidal sciences. The size of colloidal particles can be determined using various techniques in direct and reciprocal space, including electron microscopy and static and dynamic light scattering. Differential dynamic microscopy was introduced recently and offers a new alternative.

Pediatric endocrinologists (PEs) have historically read their own bone age (BA) X-rays based on the belief that radiologists do not accurately interpret these tests. Whether there are significant differences in BA interpretations between these two groups has not been systematically explored. The objectives of the study were to compare BA readings performed by PEs and radiologists and determine whether clinical variables were associated with discrepancies in readings.

Drugs that treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by antagonizing the M3 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (M3R) have had a significant effect on health, but can suffer from their lack of selectivity against the M2R subtype, which modulates heart rate. Beginning with the crystal structures of M2R and M3R, we exploited a single amino acid difference in their orthosteric binding pockets using molecular docking and structure-based design. The resulting M3R antagonists had up to 100-fold selectivity over M2R in affinity and over 1,000-fold selectivity in vivo.

Muscarinic receptor agonists are characterized by apparently strict restraints on their tertiary or quaternary amine and their distance to an ester or related center. On the basis of the active state crystal structure of the muscarinic M receptor in complex with iperoxo, we explored potential agonists that lacked the highly conserved functionalities of previously known ligands. Using structure-guided pharmacophore design followed by docking, we found two agonists (compounds 3 and 17), out of 19 docked and synthesized compounds, that fit the receptor well and were predicted to form a hydrogen-bond conserved among known agonists.
