: The 10th International brain computer interface (BCI) Society Meeting, 'Balancing Innovation and Translation', was held from the 6th to 9th of June 2023 in Brussels, Belgium. This report provides a summary of the workshop ''. This workshop was intended to give participants an overview of the current state of BCI, future opportunities, and how different countries and regions provide regulatory oversight to support the BCI community to develop safe and effective devices for patients.

Influence of Disease Modifying Treatment, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Variants and Vaccination on Coronavirus Disease 2019 Risk and Outcome in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromyelitis Optica.

Patients suffering from neuro-inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) remain vulnerable to COVID-19. We investigated the risk of COVID-19 in MS and NMOSD patients over time, considering the impact of disease-modifying treatments (DMTs), vaccinations, and the spread of new SARS-CoV-2 variants. We retrospectively collected clinical information regarding all MS and NMOSD consecutive patients seen at the Neurocenter of Southern Switzerland.

Longitudinal Postvaccine SARS-CoV-2 Immunoglobulin G Titers, Memory B-Cell Responses, and Risk of COVID-19 in Multiple Sclerosis Over 1 Year.

Background And Objectives: Some disease-modifying treatments impair response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccines in multiple sclerosis (MS), potentially increasing the risk of breakthrough infections. We aimed to investigate longitudinal SARS-CoV-2 antibody dynamics and memory B cells after 2 and 3 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine doses and their association with the risk of COVID-19 in patients with MS on different treatments over 1 year.

Methods: Prospective observational cohort study in patients with MS undergoing SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccinations.

Utility of the transversus abdominis plane and rectus sheath blocks in patients undergoing anterior lumbar interbody fusions.

Background Context: Anterior lumbar interbody fusion (ALIF) is a well-established technique to address numerous pathological conditions of the spine and to restore sagittal spine balance. Improving patient comfort and reducing opioid consumption following lumbar fusions is a significant goal for spine surgeons. Therefore, there is a growing need to explore multimodal options for pain management post-surgery.

Concept for a gas-cell-driven drug delivery system for therapeutic applications.

This paper presents a concept for an implantable micro-pump based on hydrogen-generating gas cells. The gas-generating cell is separated from the drug reservoir by an expandable latex membrane. The system offers linear drug delivery with flowrates ranging from 8 nl/s to 2 microl/s and a total delivery volume of up to 160 ml.

Intraosseous epidermoid inclusion cyst in a great toe. A case report and review of the literature.

Epidermoid inclusion cysts are benign lesions that occasionally occur in the distal phalanges of the fingers but are less frequently identified and underreported in the toes. We describe a 55-year-old man with a history of work-related trauma followed by painful expansion of his right great toe, resulting in great anxiety. Imaging studies revealed a radiolucent lesion in the distal phalanx of his right hallux.

Treatment of isolated type I open fractures: is emergent operative debridement necessary?

A retrospective review was done of treatment of isolated Type I open fractures. Ninety-one patients with isolated Type I open fractures were included in the study. Patients with multiple injuries, gunshot wounds, hand injuries, compartment syndromes, intraarticular fractures, or higher type open fractures were excluded.

Outcomes of elderly patients with nondisplaced femoral neck fractures.

Seventy patients with nondisplaced femoral neck fractures treated by cannulated screw fixation were followed up prospectively for 6 months. Preinjury Functional Independence Measure scores and comorbidities were recorded as were operative time, type of anesthesia, estimated blood loss, transfusions, and postoperative complications. Functional Independence Measure scores were reassessed at 3 and 6 months.

Neonatal testicular suppression with a GnRH agonist in rhesus monkeys: effects on adult endocrine function and behavior.

Male rhesus monkeys secrete adult levels of androgen for 3 months postnatally. The role of this neonatal testicular secretion in sexual development was investigated by suppressing luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone (T) in neonatal male rhesus (n = 6) by administering a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (Ag) for the first 4 months of postnatal life. Controls (n = 4) received vehicle.

Antide (Nal-Lys GnRH antagonist) suppression of pituitary-testicular function and sexual behavior in group-living rhesus monkeys.

The ability of a Nal-Lys gonadotropin releasing-hormone antagonist (Antide) to suppress pituitary-testicular function and male sexual behavior was studied in seven group-living adult male rhesus monkeys. Each male received a single 15 mg/kg b.wt.

Cloning of cDNA for DARPP-32, a dopamine- and cyclic AMP-regulated neuronal phosphoprotein.

A cDNA clone for the mRNA of bovine DARPP-32 (dopamine- and adenosine 3',5'-monophosphate-regulated phosphoprotein, Mr = 32,000) was isolated from a modified Okayama-Berg plasmid library. Transformed Escherichia coli colonies were screened by in situ colony hybridization with 2 different oligonucleotide probes corresponding to a region unusually rich in glutamate within the protein. Three positive clones were isolated and shown to encode DARPP-32 by an in situ immunoblot assay of their fusion protein products with beta-galactosidase.
