Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in children and adolescents is associated with substantial morbidity and increases the risk of future psychopathology. However, relatively few psychopharmacologic studies have examined treatments for GAD in pediatric populations, especially in prepubertal youth. Children and adolescents aged 7-17 years of age with a primary diagnosis of GAD were treated with flexibly dosed escitalopram (10-20 mg daily, = 138) or placebo ( = 137) for 8 weeks.

Objective: We sought to determine the prognostic significance of pCR on survival outcomes in STS for patients receiving neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (CT-RT) (Radiation Therapy Oncology Group [RTOG] 9514) or preoperative image-guided radiotherapy alone (RT, RTOG 0630) and provide a long-term update of RTOG 0630.
Design, Setting, And Participants: RTOG has completed 2 multi-institutional, nonrandomized phase 2 clinical trials for patients with localized STS.
Statistical mechanics has grown without bounds in space. Statistical mechanics of noninteracting point particles in an unbounded perfect gas is widely used to describe liquids like concentrated salt solutions of life and electrochemical technology, including batteries. Liquids are filled with interacting molecules.

Herein, we sought to study the effect of a coordinated multidisciplinary program to assess results in a community cancer center clinic.
Methods: In a retrospective review from July 2018 to July 2021, we analyzed the implementation of a multidisciplinary PMed program in a tertiary referral community cancer center.
We extend the energetic variational approach so it can be applied to a chemical reaction system with general mass action kinetics. Our approach starts with an energy-dissipation law. We show that the chemical equilibrium is determined by the choice of the free energy and the dynamics of the chemical reaction is determined by the choice of the dissipation.

The theory can also be used to study thermodynamic and electrokinetic properties of electrolyte solutions in batteries, fuel cells, nanopores, porous media including cement, geothermal brines, the oceanic system, etc. The theory can compute electric and steric energies from all atoms in a protein and all ions and water molecules in a channel pore while keeping electrolyte solutions in the extra- and intracellular baths as a continuum dielectric medium with complex properties that mimic experimental data.

The study is conducted for the setup of a simple structure defined by the profile of permanent charges with two mobile ion species, one positively charged (cation) and one negatively charged (anion). Numerical observations are obtained from analytical results established using geometric singular perturbation analysis of classical Poisson-Nernst-Planck models.

Initial diagnostic workup, including serum biochemistry panel, complete blood count and coagulation profile, was unremarkable. Abdominal ultrasound showed gastric mural thickening and non-obstructive gastric foreign material.

We hypothesize that the development of brain metastases may be explained by molecular heterogeneity between primary cutaneous melanoma (PCM) or extracranial (ECM) and brain (MBM) melanoma metastases.
Materials And Methods: We compared next-generation sequencing, tumor mutational burden (TMB), and immunohistochemical staining for PD-L1 expression, among 132 MBM, 745 PCM, and 1190 ECM.

Advances in immuno-oncology over the last several years have led to FDA approvals of novel agents. As our understanding of immune response and its checkpoints has evolved, further advances have been made in treatment for several cancer types. To predict a response to immunotherapy, the initial biomarkers used were expression of the PD-1 receptor and PD-L1, as assessed by immunohistochemistry.

We assessed whether next generation sequencing could elucidate additional treatment options in refractory adrenocortical cancer.

We report here a case of recurrent melanoma of the ear that achieved complete response with talimogene laherparepvec treatment after the patient declined surgical resection.

Broad molecular profiling is now nearly essential for all patients with metastatic solid tumors. New agents have been approved based on molecular testing instead of tumor site of origin.

Channels switch between an "open" state with a well-defined single amplitude of current and "closed" states with nearly zero current. The existing mean-field theory of ion channels focuses almost solely on the open state.

The explosion of parameters originates from the phenomenological extension of the Debye-Hückel theory that does not take steric and correlation effects of ions and water into account. By contrast, the Poisson-Fermi theory developed in recent years treats ions and water molecules as nonuniform hard spheres of any size with interstitial voids and includes ion-water and ion-ion correlations.

As metformin is not commonly used in veterinary medicine, severe adverse effects secondary to exposure are not known. Awareness of potentially life-threatening complications with metformin exposure is an important addition to the veterinary literature.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLiposarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma. With its various subtypes, the natural history of this disease can vary significantly from a locally recurrent tumor to a highly malignant one carrying a poor prognosis. Progress in the understanding of the specific molecular abnormalities in liposarcoma provides greater opportunity for new treatment modalities.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOBJECTIVE Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is composed of cells that migrate through the brain along predictable white matter pathways. Targeting white matter pathways adjacent to, and leading away from, the original contrast-enhancing tumor site (termed leading-edge radiosurgery [LERS]) with single-fraction stereotactic radiosurgery as a boost to standard therapy could limit the spread of glioma cells and improve clinical outcomes. METHODS Between December 2000 and May 2016, after an initial diagnosis of GBM and prior to or during standard radiation therapy and carmustine or temozolomide chemotherapy, 174 patients treated with radiosurgery to the leading edge (LE) of tumor cell migration were reviewed.
