Curriculum renewal is an ongoing reality for all undergraduate nursing programs and is often a challenge for educators in preparing nursing students for practice. In response to constantly changing educational strategies, methodologies and knowledge, a BSN nursing program determined that a curriculum redesign was necessary. This article outlines a BSN faculty's curriculum redesign process from the perspective of the Curriculum Development Team.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn nursing education, physiological concepts are typically presented within a body 'systems' framework yet learners are often challenged to apply this knowledge in the holistic and functional manner needed for effective clinical decision-making and safe patient care. A nursing faculty addressed this learning challenge by developing an advanced organizer as a conceptual and integrative learning tool to support learners in diverse learning environments and practice settings. A mixed methods research study was conducted that explored the effectiveness of the Oxygen Supply and Demand Framework as a learning tool in undergraduate nursing education.

Understanding and managing the physiological consequences of critical illness requires nurses to integrate knowledge of patient assessment, physiology and pathophysiology, and critical care interventions into their clinical decision-making. The Oxygen Supply and Demand Framework incorporates interrelated physiological concepts that influence balance between oxygen supply and demand and, consequently, supports an integrated understanding of critically ill patient situations.
