Introduction: Although perinatal death rates in the Nordic countries are among the lowest in the world, the risk of perinatal death is unevenly distributed across the Nordic countries, despite similarity in health care systems and pregnancy care. Birth registration practices across countries may explain some of the differences. We investigated differences in national registration of perinatal mortality within the Nordic countries and its impact on perinatal mortality according to gestational age.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a lack of evidence on the safety of flow diversion (FD) for treating aneurysms outside the circle of Willis, leading to a study on the Silk Vista Baby (SVB) device at a single medical center.
  • The study involved 57 patients with various types of aneurysms, mostly in the anterior circulation, and found a low complication rate (5.2% symptomatic ischemic) with no hemorrhagic incidents and an overall mortality rate of 1.8%.
  • The findings suggest that SVB is a safe option for treating both distal anterior and complex posterior fossa aneurysms, but further multicenter studies are necessary to validate these results.

Background:  The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic accelerated the use of telehealth. However, this also exacerbated health care disparities for vulnerable populations.

Objectives:  This study aimed to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of a medical student-led initiative to identify and address gaps in patient access to digital health resources in adult primary care clinics at an academic safety-net hospital.

Article Synopsis
  • - The Surpass Evolve (SE) is a new type of flow diverter used as the primary treatment for certain intracranial aneurysms, and its safety and effectiveness were evaluated in a large, multicenter study called SEASE, involving data from 305 patients treated between 2020 and 2022.
  • - Most patients in the study were female, had unruptured saccular aneurysms, and showed an average significant follow-up period during which 73% of aneurysms achieved complete occlusion.
  • - The findings indicate that SE demonstrates a high rate of effectiveness in closing aneurysms and exhibits a favorable safety profile, with low rates of major strokes and procedure-related mortality.

Introduction: Physical activity (PA) promotes significant physical and psychosocial benefits for breast cancer survivors. While evidence exists regarding recommendations for the frequency, duration and intensity of exercise that optimise PA benefits for cancer survivors, the role of the environment in achieving optimal outcomes has yet to be determined. This paper presents a protocol for a clinical trial to evaluate the feasibility of a 3-month nature-based walking programme for breast cancer survivors.

Nanoparticles (NPs) are widely used in diverse application areas, such as medicine, engineering, and cosmetics. The size (or volume) of NPs is one of the most important parameters for their successful application. It is relatively straightforward to determine the volume of regular NPs such as spheres and cubes from a one-dimensional or two-dimensional measurement.

Unlabelled: In 2014, the identification of stone fruits contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes led to the subsequent identification of a multistate outbreak. Simultaneous detection and enumeration of L. monocytogenes were performed on 105 fruits, each weighing 127 to 145 g, collected from 7 contaminated lots.

PCR-based typing methods, such as repetitive sequence-based PCR (rep-PCR), may facilitate the identification of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) by serving as screening methods to reduce the number of isolates to be processed for further confirmation. In this study, we used a commercial rep-PCR typing system to generate DNA fingerprint profiles for STEC O157 (n = 60) and non-O157 (n = 91) isolates from human, food, and animal samples and then compared the results with those obtained from pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). Fifteen serogroups were analyzed using the Kullback Leibler or extended Jaccard statistical method, and the unweighted pair group method of averages algorithm was used to create dendrograms.
