We report herein a 63-year-old female with gastric duplication cyst (GDC), of which resected specimen was histologically shown to be composed of gastric foveolar epithelium and thin bundles of smooth muscle. Computed tomography revealed a thin-walled cystic lesion surrounded by the pancreatic tail, spleen, left kidney, and the stomach. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a thin layer between the cyst and either the spleen or kidney, successfully excluding the possibility that the cyst originated from these organs.

Serum antibody to carbonic anhydrase II (CA II) has been reported in patients with autoimmune pancreatitis and its related autoimmune liver diseases. To evaluate its diagnostic significance, we studied serum antibodies to CA II and also CA I in patients with chronic viral hepatitis by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and reviewed its prevalence previously reported in patients with liver diseases. Anti-CA II antibody was detected in 5 of 20 patients with chronic hepatitis type C (25%, p<0.

Abstract We report a case of systemic lupus erythematosus that concomitantly occurred with autoimmune pancreatitis. The clinical manifestations of pancreatitis improved in response to steroid therapy. Although the pathogenesis of autoimmune pancreatitis is still controversial, as is that of systemic lupus erythematosus, the observations in the present case suggest the presence of an autoimmune mechanism underlying autoimmune pancreatitis.

Context: A serum antibody to carbonic anhydrase II has been reported in patients with Sjögren's syndrome and idiopathic chronic pancreatitis.

Objective: To evaluate cellular immune response to carbonic anhydrase II in patients with Sjögren's syndrome and idiopathic chronic pancreatitis.

Patients: Idiopathic chronic pancreatitis (n=23), Sjögren's syndrome (n=12), alcoholic chronic pancreatitis (n=3) and normal controls (n=13).

Carbonic anhydrase-related protein (CA-RP) VIII, which is a member of the CA gene family, has been shown to have no catalytic CA activity and its biological function is still unknown. Recently, overexpression of CAs IX and XII has been reported in certain types of malignancy. To investigate a potential role for CA-RP VIII in human colorectal epithelial carcinogenesis, colorectal tissue specimens from surgically resected adenocarcinomas (n = 60) and endoscopically polypectomized adenomas (n = 13) were analysed by immunohistochemistry using monoclonal antibodies to CA-RP VIII and Ki-67 antigen.
