Symmetric drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthema (SDRIFE) is a cutaneous drug reaction that presents with symmetrical erythema in the flexures. The reaction typically appears hours-to-days after drug exposure but has been reported to occur months after drug initiation. Diagnostic criteria include cutaneous reaction after exposure to a systemic drug, erythema of the gluteal region and/or V-shaped erythema of the inguinal areas, involvement of an additional intertriginous site, symmetry, and absence of systemic involvement.

Hand-foot syndrome (HFS), also known as palmoplantar erythrodysesthesia or acral erythema, is a known adverse effect of chemotherapeutic agents that most commonly presents as palmoplantar dysesthesia and erythematous plaques localized to the palms and soles. Paclitaxel is an uncommon cause of HFS and is notable for its unique presentation on the dorsal hands and feet. We present an unusual case of paclitaxel-induced HFS localized to the dorsal hands of a 66-year-old man with metastatic angiosarcoma.

Calcipotriol (calcipotriene) is a synthetic vitamin D3 derivative that is a standard treatment option for psoriasis. It is generally well tolerated with minimal side effects. Due to its ability to reduce keratinocyte proliferation and induce keratinocyte differentiation as well as its immunomodulatory effects, calcipotriol has been used to treat a variety of skin disorders such as atopic dermatitis, actinic keratoses, lichen planus, seborrheic keratoses, and vitiligo [1].

Ustekinumab is a biologic agent with Food and Drug Administration approval for the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease. It functions to inhibit the p40 subunit common to both interleukin-12 and interleukin-23. These pro-inflammatory cytokines are implicated in autoinflammatory and autoimmune disorders, but they also play an important role in cell-mediated immunity against viral, bacterial, and fungal pathogens.

Background: Little is known about dermatologists' perceptions of postoperative pain and how those perceptions correlate with patient-reported pain and opioid prescribing.

Objective: To determine dermatologists' accuracy in predicting postoperative pain compared with patient-reported pain and how physicians' perceptions affect opioid prescribing practices.

Methods And Materials: A prospective observational study in which patients undergoing Mohs surgery rated pain on the Numerical Rating Scale (0-10).

Increased uranium (U) concentrations are found in certain ground and surface waters of the Swiss Plateau. Analysis of more than 100 public fountains revealed that increased U concentrations frequently occur close to the interface between the Lower Freshwater Molasse and the Upper Marine Molasse, cropping out in the western part of the Swiss Molasse Basin. Out of these locations, Mont Vully, situated ca.

A fundamental understanding of chemical interactions and transport mechanisms that result from introducing multiple chemical species into a polymer plays a key role in the development and optimization of membranes, coatings, and decontamination formulations. In this study, we explore the solvent-assisted desorption of a penetrant (2,5-lutidine) in polyurethane with aprotic (acetonitrile) and protic (methanol) solvents. Chemical interactions between solvent, penetrant, and polymer functional groups are characterized via time-resolved Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) during single and multicomponent exposures.

Purpose: To determine if prediabetes phenotype influences improvements in glucose homeostasis with resistance training (RT).

Methods: Older, overweight individuals with prediabetes (n = 159; aged 60±5 yrs; BMI 33±4 kg/m2) completed a supervised RT program twice per week for 12 weeks. Body weight and composition, strength, fasting plasma glucose, 2-hr oral glucose tolerance, and Matsuda-Defronza estimated insulin sensitivity index (ISI) were assessed before and after the intervention.

An in situ diffusion experiment was performed at the Grimsel Test Site (Switzerland). Several tracers ((3)H as HTO, (22)Na(+), (134)Cs(+), (131)I(-) with stable I(-) as carrier) were continuously circulated through a packed-off borehole and the decrease in tracer concentrations in the liquid phase was monitored for a period of about 2years. Subsequently, the borehole section was overcored and the tracer profiles in the rock analyzed ((3)H, (22)Na(+), (134)Cs(+)).

In 1983, a young man inhaled accidentally a large amount of plutonium and americium. This case was carefully followed until 2013. Since no decorporation measures had been taken, the undisturbed metabolism of Pu and Am can be derived from the data.

Zinc (Zn) deficiency is a major problem for many people living on wheat-based diets. Here, we explored whether addition of green manure of red clover and sunflower to a calcareous soil or inoculating a non-indigenous arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) strain may increase grain Zn concentration in bread wheat. For this purpose we performed a multifactorial pot experiment, in which the effects of two green manures (red clover, sunflower), ZnSO4 application, soil γ-irradiation (elimination of naturally occurring AMF), and AMF inoculation were tested.

Soil and radioactive slurries were analyzed for the presence of beta emitting (241)Pu and (90)Sr. The comparison study between two different LSC apparatus, TriCarb 2200/2550 and Hidex 300 SL, shows good agreement for the quench corrected (241)Pu activity concentrations. The (90)Sr activity concentrations of most soil samples were in agreement, and were confirmed by the recommended IAEA-375 value.

An analytical method for determination of (210)Pb, (226)Ra and (228)Ra is presented based on adsorption on 3M Empore RadDiscs, and measurement applying liquid scintillation spectrometry (LSC) after elution. The LSC measurement was performed with optimized α/β-discrimination and isotope standardization using the triple to double coincidence ratio (TDCR). The consistency of measurement results between radioactive parent-daughter pairs (210)Pb/(210)Bi, (226)Ra/(222)Rn and (228)Ra/(228)Ac was checked in long-term counting experiments and the influence ofinterference of in-growing daughters from (226)Ra into the β-spectrum of (228)Ra+(228)Ac was studied as well.

Organic ligands in soils affect the availability of trace metals such as Zn to plants. This study investigated the effects of two of these ligands, citrate and histidine, on Zn uptake by wheat under hydroponic conditions. Uptake of (65)Zn in the presence of these ligands was compared to uptake in the presence of EDTA at the same free Zn concentration (Zn(2+) ~ 50 nM).

(241)Pu was determined in slurry samples from a nuclear reactor decommissioning project at the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland). To validate the results, the (241)Pu activities of five samples were determined by LSC (TriCarb and Quantulus) and ICP-MS, with each instrument at a different laboratory. In lack of certified reference materials for (241)Pu, the methods were further validated using the (241)Pu information values of two reference sediments (IAEA-300 and IAEA-384).
