Water in a crosslinked dextran gel, Sephadex G25, is known to remain partially unfrozen during cooling and undergoes ice crystallization during rewarming. However, the mechanism of ice crystallization during rewarming is still unclear. To elucidate the frozen state of water in the gel, thermal behavior at low temperatures was investigated by using adiabatic calorimetry.

Hence, we analyzed DIR images with defects taken using the photostimulable phosphor (PSP) plate method and then classified these images based on the causes of the defect. The aim of this study was to classify defects in DIR using the PSP plate system, and to discuss the causes of each type of defect and the methods that can prevent their occurrence.

We report a case of elongated styloid process syndrome with prolongation of the superior cornu of the thyroid cartilage.
Case Presentation: A 50-year-old man was referred to our clinic with the chief complaint of discomfort on the right side of his neck.
We reported an extremely rare case regarding intraosseous clear cell variant of mucoepidermoid carcinoma in maxilla.

Occasionally, the appearance of a mucocele closely resembles a neoplastic lesion, and it can be difficult to diagnose.
Presentation Of Case: A 74-year-old Japanese male patient was referred to our clinic with painless swelling related to the upper right canine-premolar area.
Background: Clavicle fractures (CF) after radical neck dissection (RND) for oral cancer are rare but are thought to occur as a result of myotonia and decreased blood supply to the muscles around the clavicle after RND. The current report presents a rare case of a non-neoplastic pathological CF after RND, and discusses the role of imaging examinations for the timely detection of CF.
Case Report: An 82-year-old Japanese man underwent RND followed by chemotherapy without radiotherapy for secondary metastasis of the right cervical lymph node after resection of tongue cancer.
Introduction: Masticatory muscle tendon-aponeurosis hyperplasia (MMTAH) is a new clinical entity that presents mainly with trismus due to hyperplasia of the masseter aponeurosis and temporalis muscle tendon. However, the etiological factors of this disease are unknown; it is often mistreated as temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD).
Presentation Of Case: We report a 32-year-old female patient complaining of bilateral pain in her jaw and difficulty opening her mouth.
Introduction: Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are diseases of the temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscles, and are often difficult to be diagnosed because they have various symptoms, pathological conditions and causes.
Presentation Of Case: Herein, we report a 78-year-old male referred to our hospital with a diagnosis of TMD and presenting with facial asymmetry, marked deviation to the right side on vertical mandibular movement and complaints of abnormal perception at the right oral and buccal region. Past medical history revealed that he had undergone a right intracranial trigeminal schwannoma resection 9 years prior.
Dental cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) received regulatory approval in Japan in 2000 and has been widely used since being approved for coverage by the National Health Insurance system in 2012. This imaging technique allows dental practitioners to observe and diagnose lesions in the dental hard tissue in three dimensions (3D). When performing routine radiography, the examination must be justified, and optimal protection should be provided according to the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principles laid down by the International Commission on Radiological Protection.

It is mostly associated with other salivary gland pathologies such as tumors and inflammations, and is incidentally found in tissue sections during histopathological examinations of those diseases. Herein, we report a case of ADP/H in the parotid gland not associated with any other pathological lesions, and present a review of the literature on this condition.

Because osteosarcomas of the head and neck region are rare, accounting for less than 10% of all osteosarcoma cases, limited information is available about their treatment and prognosis. Because of the high rate of distal metastases associated with extragnathic osteosarcoma, surgery combined with chemotherapy is currently considered essential in its treatment.

Oral cancers are integrated in head and neck cancers and are applied to the general rules on head and neck cancer, but it is considered that more detailed rules based on the characteristics of oral cancers are essential. The objectives of this 'General Rules for Clinical and Pathological Studies on Oral Cancer' are to contribute to the development of the diagnosis, treatment and research of oral cancers based on the correct and useful medical information of clinical, surgical, pathological and image findings accumulated from individual patients at various institutions.

We investigated cell survival, DNA fragmentation, and caspase activation after X-ray irradiation and AsA treatment of human leukemia HL60 cells. The number of living cells decreased after combined X-ray irradiation and AsA treatment (2 Gy + 5 mM) in comparison with that after X-ray irradiation (2 Gy) or AsA treatment (5 mM) alone.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the difference of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) between deviated and nondeviated sides of the mandible in adult patients with mandibular deviation.
Study Design: TMJ size, disk displacement, and clinical symptoms of 28 patients were examined clinically and by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Twelve age- and sex-matched control subjects were also used to evaluate which side of the mandible in patients was similar to the control.
Purpose: The study goal was to clarify the association between computed tomography (CT) findings, histologic features, and outcome of osteosarcoma of the jaw (OSJ).
Materials And Methods: The CT findings and histologic features of 10 patients with OSJ were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were histopathologically diagnosed to have OSJ.

We present 3 cases of Sjögren's syndrome in which multiple sialolithiasis were observed in the parenchyma of the parotid gland. The sonographic examinations showed microliths that were observed as hyperechoic spots. Some of the microliths were accompanied with comet sign, however most of them showed no particular posterior echoes.

Objective: To clarify the useful findings for determining whether the submandibular mass is intraglandular or extraglandular.
Study Design: Forty-eight patients with swelling of the submandibular region were reviewed. The relationship between the lesion and the submandibular gland and the displacement of the anterior facial vein were analyzed.

Objective: We sought to clarify the correlation among a computed tomography (CT) or a panoramic radiography (PR) pattern of bone destruction, a histologic pattern of bone destruction, and a mode of invasion in carcinoma of the mandibular gingiva.
Study Design: CT images, panoramic radiographs, and decalcified, hematoxylin-eosin-stained preparations of the excised mandibular bone of 62 patients with carcinoma of the mandibular gingiva were retrospectively evaluated. Each computed tomograph, panoramic radiograph, and the histologic pattern of bone destruction was classified as 1 of 5 types: erosive, erosive and partly mixed, mixed, mixed and partly invasive, or invasive.

Objectives: We sought to evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of computed tomography (CT) images in the differentiation between intraosseous malignant tumors and osteomyelitis spreading into the masticator space.
Study Design: A retrospective evaluation was carried out by using CT images from 12 patients with intraosseous malignant tumors and 9 patients with osteomyelitis involving the masticator space and accompanying mandibular bone destruction. The following CT observations are discussed: (1) bone destruction pattern subdivided into spotty, gross, or permeative; (2) cortical bone expansion; (3) diffuse osteosclerotic changes; (4) periosteal reaction; (5) masticator muscle involvement; (6) enlargement of the facial muscle; and (7) attenuation in the subcutaneous adipose tissue.
