Background: A disadvantage of pivot-shift maneuvers is that the examiner has to subjectively evaluate the degree of pivot shift observed. It is unknown whether the various maneuvers are biomechanically identical.
Purpose: To compare biomechanical features of 3 clinical maneuvers for the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)-deficient knee: the pivot-shift test, the jerk test, and the N-test.
Background: The data available from the previously reported clinical studies remains insufficient concerning the hamstring graft preparation in double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.
Objective: To test the hypothesis that there are no significant differences between the semitendinosus tendon alone and the semitendinosus and gracilis tendon graft fashioning techniques concerning knee stability and clinical outcome after anatomic double-bundle ACL reconstruction.
Methods: A prospective study was performed on 120 patients who underwent anatomic double-bundle ACL reconstruction according to the graft fashioning technique.
Background: In the anatomic double-bundle ACL reconstruction, 2 femoral tunnel positions are particularly critical to obtain better clinical results. Recently, a few studies have reported quantitative identification methods for posterolateral (PL) bundle reconstruction. We examined distribution and expression of this chemokine receptor in specimens of invasive and noninvasive human vulvar neoplasms to elucidate its clinical significance.
Methods: Study patients were 38 consecutive patients (31 with primary vulvar cancers and 7 with intraepithelial neoplasms) treated at one of our hospitals.
Background: We have developed crosslinked salmon-derived atelocollagen sponge, which has a denaturation temperature of 47 degrees Celsius. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the fundamental in vivo efficacy of the osteogenic protein (OP) -1 containing salmon-derived collagen sponge disc (SCS) on cartilage regeneration, using a rabbit model.
Methods: A total of 24 rabbits were used in this study.
Objective: Multiple auditory steady-state responses (ASSRs) to air- and bone-conduction stimuli were recorded in young children with otitis media with effusion (OME). After treatment for OME, differences between pre-treatment bone-conduction ASSR levels and post-treatment conditioned orientation reflex (COR) or air-conduction ASSR levels were examined, and compared with ASSR-estimated air-bone gap (ABG) before treatment.
Methods: Navigator Pro with Master was used to assess the threshold of air- and bone-conduction ASSR in both ears at 500Hz, 1000Hz, 2000Hz and 4000Hz.
Background: Several new procedures for medial collateral ligament (MCL) reconstruction using a hamstring tendon graft have been reported in the 2000s. However, the midterm and long-term clinical outcomes of these procedures have not been reported.
Hypothesis: Postoperative medial stability of the knee that underwent our MCL reconstruction may not be significantly different from that of the noninjured knee.

Methods: Three hundred twenty-one patients who underwent primary surgery with pelvic (90 patients) or combined pelvic and paraaortic lymphadenectomy (231 patients) for gynecologic malignancy between January 2001 and December 2009 were enrolled. The incidences of lymphocyst identified by computed tomography at 3 weeks and 1 year after surgery were analyzed in relation to the types of surgery and types of complications.
Background: To describe a rare case of hydrosalpinx torsion in a virgin patient with Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome.
Case: A 25-year-old woman with previously diagnosed MRKH syndrome in whom lower abdominal pain led to discovery and resection of a hydosalpinx of unusual origin in a university hospital department of obstetrics and gynecology, Japan.
Results And Conclusions: Laparoscopy revealed a twisted left-sided hydrosalpinx, and the mass was resected laparoscopically.
Background: Tunnel enlargement and coalition following double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with hamstring tendon autografts has not yet been sufficiently studied.
Hypothesis: The incidence and the degree of femoral tunnel enlargement will be significantly greater than those for tibial tunnel enlargement after anatomic double-bundle ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendon autografts. There will be no significant correlation between tunnel enlargement and coalition and the postoperative knee laxity.
Aim: To compare tissue concentrations of flurbiprofen resulting from topical application and oral administration according to the regulatory approved dosing guidelines.
Method: Sixteen patients were included in this study. Each patient was randomly assigned to the topical application or oral administration group.

Methods: By use of the transtibial technique, 2 doubled semitendinosus tendons were grafted into 4 tunnels created at the center of each bundle attachment, penetrating the ACL remnant tissue. In total, 44 patients (27 male and 17 female patients) with an isolated ACL injury underwent ACL reconstruction with this procedure.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the operation time required and the clinical outcome 2 years postoperatively, after anatomic double-bundle ACL reconstructions using hamstring tendon grafts fixed with either the EndoButton-CL-BTB(®) (ECL-BTB) or the EndoButton-CL(®) (ECL).
Methods: Forty-six patients, who underwent anatomic double-bundle ACL reconstruction, were non-randomly divided into 2 groups. Patients with a combined ligament injury or complete meniscal tear were excluded from this study.
Background: Although previous studies suggested that female patients are predisposed to increase graft laxity compared with male patients after single-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using autogenous hamstring tendons, there have been no studies specifically examining gender-based differences in outcome after anatomic double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with hamstring tendon autografts.
Hypotheses: (1) Female patients have significantly smaller hamstring graft diameters than do men for anatomic double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery; (2) female patients will have increased graft laxity compared with male patients after anatomic double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using autogenous hamstring tendons.

Background: The posterolateral corner (PLC) resists tibial varus angulation, external rotation, and, to a lesser extent, posterior translation. It is important that reconstructions of posterolateral knee injuries restore joint laxity and patient function, but residual laxities are often observed.
Hypothesis: The knee laxity after a new 4-strand PLC reconstruction would be closer to normal than after a 2-strand "modified Larson" reconstruction.
Purpose: Authors have hypothesized that the incidence and the degree of femoral tunnel enlargement after the hamstring ACL reconstruction may be significantly less in the anatomic double-bundle procedure than in single-bundle procedure. The purpose of this study is to test this hypothesis.
Methods: Seventy-two patients who underwent single-bundle reconstruction (Group S) and 97 patients who underwent anatomic double-bundle reconstruction (Group D) were followed up for 2 years after surgery.

The authors report a case of usual-type (basaloid-type) vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) 3 that failed to respond to imiquimod cream. A 51-year-old Japanese woman visited her local gynecologist complaining of vulvar itching. Atypical cells were noted in cytology smears, but nine vulvar biopsy specimens showed benign proliferation of epithelial tissue.

Hypothesis: The anatomic double-bundle procedure would be better than both laterally placed anatomic and nonanatomic transtibial single-bundle procedures at restoring to normal the tibial anterior translation, internal rotation, and pivot-shift instability. It was also hypothesized that tibial internal rotation would be closer to normal after laterally placed anatomic single-bundle reconstruction than after the nonanatomic reconstruction.
The role played by macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) in the process of wound healing is controversial. Besides, there have been no reports that investigated the expression or the role of MIF in the repair process after ligament injury. In this study, we hypothesized that the deficiency in MIF gene might delay ligament healing in mice.
