Using lineage-specific Piezo1 knockout mice (Piezo1cKO), we show that loss of Piezo1 in CD4+ T cells significantly increased IFNγ and IL-17 production in vitro under TH1 and TH17 polarizing conditions, respectively. Despite their intrinsic proinflammatory phenotype, Piezo1cKO T cells are incapable of establishing disease in vivo in three separate adoptive transfer (AT) T cell-mediated inflammatory mouse models, including experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and graft versus-host disease.

Building on work that established immediate spatial proximity of PrPC and Na+, K+-ATPases (NKAs) in the brain, we recently showed that PrPC levels can be reduced by targeting NKAs with their natural cardiac glycoside (CG) inhibitors. We then introduced C4'-dehydro-oleandrin as a CG with improved pharmacological properties for this indication, showing that it reduced PrPC levels by 84% in immortalized human cells that had been differentiated to acquire neural or astrocytic characteristics.

Methods: This comparative non-randomized and non-interventional study included retrospective data of 21 patients with unilateral acquired anophthalmic sockets repaired with spheric implants. High-resolution computed tomography (CT) measurements of the LPM/SR muscle complex and clinical topographic position of the upper lid, superior and inferior fornix depth in primary gaze position were evaluated.
Purpose: Sleeping disorders were reported in many patients who took vaccines during previous pandemics. We aim to investigate the relationship between coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines and the incidence of narcolepsy symptoms in the Jordanian population.
Materials And Methods: We used a descriptive, cross-sectional, online self-administered survey conducted between December 2022 and May 2023.
During the pandemic, Favipiravir (FVP) and Molnupiravir (MPV) have been widely used for COVID-19 treatment, leading to their presence in the environment. A green synchronous spectrofluorimetric method was developed to simultaneously detect them in environmental water, human plasma, and binary mixtures. Maximum fluorescence intensity was achieved at pH 8, with MPV exhibiting two peaks at 300 and 430 nm, and FVP showing one peak at 430 nm.
