Background: Laptops are ubiquitous tools in today's society; however, their prolonged use often leads to discomfort and musculoskeletal disorders due to their nonergonomic design. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an innovative adjustable laptop stand in enhancing comfort and productivity during typing tasks.

Methods: A 2-phase experimental design was employed.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effects of a head/neck supporting exoskeleton (HNSE) on the electromyographic fatigue threshold (EMG) of the neck and shoulder muscles during a simulated overhead work task.

Background: Overhead work is a well-known risk factor for neck and shoulder musculoskeletal disorders due to the excessive strain imposed on the muscles and joints in these regions.

Method: Fourteen healthy males performed a repetitive overhead nut fastening/unfastening task to exhaustion while wearing and not wearing the HNSE at two neck extension angles (40% and 80% of neck maximum range of motion).

Background: Parents often use baby walkers (BWs) as assistive devices to improve their infants' independent movement and motor skill acquisition. However, the literature suggests that conventional baby walkers (CBW) may cause delays in an infant's ability to walk independently and musculoskeletal burden on parents.

Objective: In the current study, a baby walker (RBW) with chest support was redesigned and ergonomically assessed during an infant-walking task.

Article Synopsis
  • Overhead work increases the risk of neck and shoulder musculoskeletal disorders, prompting a study on a passive head/neck supporting exoskeleton (HNSE) as an ergonomic solution.
  • Fourteen male participants tested the HNSE while performing an overhead task, exploring its effects on neck angle and comfort levels.
  • Results showed the HNSE reduced discomfort and muscle activity in the neck and shoulders but increased trapezius muscle activity; however, it did not significantly impact task performance, indicating the need for further research.

Background: Nowadays, although using laptops to perform many routine activities is inevitable, many wheelchair users are not able to efficiently use their laptops due to their movement limitations and inappropriate workstations.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate a novel ergonomic laptop desk for wheelchair users by considering their movement limitations.

Methods: In this experimental study, we ergonomically designed and assessed a novel laptop desk in two phases in a laboratory.

Background: Smartphones (SPs) are widely used by people of all age groups and genders. Users spend many hours per day on the SPs for different purposes, which imposes significant stress on their musculoskeletal system.

Objectives: This study explored head forward flexion, lateral bending angle, and viewing distance while working with a SP in sitting/standing postures and one-handed/two-handed grips.

Background: Due to their physically and mentally demanding job, nurses are exposed to high risk of fatigue and musculoskeletal disorders, through which their work ability could be adversely affected.

Objective: This study aims to identify factors influencing nurses' work ability by using a macroergonomic model.

Methods: Descriptive and qualitative analyses were carried out in two phases of the study.

Background: Non-technical skills are interpersonal and cognitive skills involved in safe performance and preventing adverse events during surgery. it is necessary to dominate the non-technical skills to ensure patient safety. This study has aimed to assess the validity and reliability of Oxford Non-technical skills 2 system (Oxford NOTECHS 2) in Iran and to evaluate surgical teams' non-technical skills in orthopedic surgery wards.

Nursing is a physically demanding job characterized by a high prevalence of fatigue and musculoskeletal disorders. One of the high-exertion and repetitive nursing tasks is the manual connection of an infusion set to a medical fluid bottle. Such physical work can be eased by the design of new hand tools.
