Article Synopsis
  • * A literature review was conducted using databases like PubMed and Google Scholar to gather evidence on the causes and differentiation methods for both conditions.
  • * Techniques such as Fundus fluorescein angiography, optical coherence tomography, and MRI help distinguish between the two, and in some cases, more invasive procedures like lumbar punctures may be necessary.

Modified capsulorhexis for fiuid-filled mature cataracts.

Med Hypothesis Discov Innov Ophthalmol

August 2021

Background: The aim of this study was to develop a modified capsulorhexis technique featuring a new maneuver for the removal of subcortical fluid in fluid-filled mature cataracts to avoid high intralenticular pressure.

Methods: This prospective interventional study included 33 eyes with mature cataracts and evidence of subcapsular fluid spaces by slit lamp examination. For each patient, 20% mannitol was administered intravenously according to the bodyweight 1 h preoperatively.

To effectively reduce the spread of SARS-CoV-2, it is crucial to highlight the effectiveness of building design strategies in mitigating threats to occupants. The ongoing pandemic research and actions focus on how poor Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) amplifies the effects of airborne viruses. This review aims to draw architects' attention toward the high risk of airborne transmission of diseases by providing the latest updates and solutions to understand better the environmental and health issues associated with COVID-19.

Purpose: To evaluate the changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) after intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide for the management of diabetic macular edema (DME).

Methods: The study design is a prospective, interventional, two-arm, dose-response study. Nineteen patients with bilateral DME were included, one eye for every patient underwent intravitreal injection of 4 mg triamcinolone acetonide (group A, 19 eyes), and the other eye of the same patient underwent intravitreal injection of 8 mg triamcinolone acetonide (group B, 19 eyes); the selection as to which eye was to receive either dose was random.

Purpose: To evaluate the use of red-free light for the measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP) using a Goldmann applanation tonometer without fluorescein.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on 500 eyes in 250 patients attending the Ophthalmology Outpatient Clinic at Suez Canal University Hospital. The IOP was measured using a Goldmann applanation tonometer mounted on a Haag-Streit slit-lamp.

Purpose: To study the effect of topical application of mitomycin C on enhancing the efficacy of needling in the management of bleb failure.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-six eyes of 32 consecutive patients with an intraocular pressure over 21 mmHg, without bleb or with a thick, flat bleb after the second postoperative month after trabeculectomy, were included in the study. Needling with mitomycin C was performed in the other 18 eyes with bleb failure (group A) and needling without antimetabolite was performed in 18 eyes (group B).

Purpose: To compare the efficacy of preoperative local injection of mitomycin C (MMC) to intraoperative application of MMC in the prevention of pterygium recurrence after surgical removal.

Materials And Methods: Seventy eyes of 70 patients with primary pterygia were randomly allocated to two groups. The first group (Group A, 35 eyes) received 0.
