Assessment of Craniometric Sexual Dimorphism Using Multidetector Computed Tomographic Imaging in a Sample of Egyptian Population.

Sex determination is an initial and essential component of any medicolegal investigations. However, sometimes only cranial remains are available. The objective of this study was to determine sex using 12 craniofacial measurements in multidetector computed tomographic images of 150 Egyptian subjects (80 men and 70 women), with age ranging from 18 to 60 years.

Magnetic resonance imaging versus musculoskeletal ultrasonography in detecting inflammatory arthropathy in systemic sclerosis patients with hand arthralgia.

The aim of the study was the detection of inflammatory arthropathy in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) with arthralgia using musculoskeletal ultrasonography (MSUS) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to compare between MRI versus MSUS detecting musculoskeletal abnormalities and find out its relation with other clinical and laboratory parameters. Sixteen SSc patients with hand arthralgia had a baseline MSUS for their hands. Six months later, patients had a second MSUS and MRI with gadolinium of their most symptomatic hand.

Uterine cervical malignancy: diagnostic accuracy of MRI with histopathologic correlation.

Objective: Cervical cancer is the third most common malignancy in women worldwide. Accurate staging of the disease is crucial in planning the optimal treatment strategy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the assessment of extension and staging of cervical malignancy in correlation with histopathologic examination.

Preoperative embolization of Castleman's disease using microspheres.

Castleman's disease is a rare form of lymph node hyperplasia most commonly presenting as a solitary hypervascular mediastinal mass. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice, but this can be associated with significant blood loss due to its hypervascularity. We report two cases with a preoperative diagnosis of mediastinal Castleman's disease in whom preoperative embolization with Trisacryl gelatin microspheres (Biosphere Medical, Rockland, MA) was performed.

Hypothenar hammer syndrome in a computer programmer: CTA diagnosis and surgical and endovascular treatment.

Finger ischemia due to embolic occlusion of digital arteries resulting from trauma to the palmar ulnar artery has been termed hypothenar hammer syndrome (HHS). In HHS, arterial thrombosis and/or aneurysm formation with embolization to the digital arteries causes symptoms of ischemia. We describe a patient in whom the initial diagnosis was made on multidetector computed tomographic angiography (CTA), as well as his endovascular and surgical management.

CT angiography of renal arteriovenous fistulae: a report of two cases.

Renal arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are rare abnormal communications between the arterial and venous circulations that can be congenital or acquired. We describe the multidetector computed tomography angiography (MDCTA) appearance of 2 cases of renal AVF, one with the cirsoid and one with the aneurysmal subtype, and the impact of these findings on therapeutic decision making and treatment follow-up.
