Background: Tissue-resident memory T (Trm) cells are associated with cytotoxicity not only in viral infection and autoimmune disease pathologies but also in many cancers. Tumour-infiltrating CD103 Trm cells predominantly comprise CD8 T cells that express cytotoxic activation and immune checkpoint molecules called exhausted markers. This study aimed to investigate the role of Trm in colorectal cancer (CRC) and characterise the cancer-specific Trm.

Background: The efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) correlates with patient survival in oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), but optimal evaluation of the treatment response based on PET-CT parameters has not been established.

Methods: We analysed 226 OSCC patients who underwent PET-CT before and after NACT followed by surgery. We assessed SUVmax, metabolic tumour volume (MTV), and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) for the primary tumour and the number of PET-positive lymph nodes before and after NACT to predict patient survival.

Background: Despite previous therapeutic studies on autophagy in cancer, its role in the treatment of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma remains controversial, especially regarding its effect on chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and both combined. We focused on RUN domain Beclin-1 interacting and cysteine-rich-containing protein (Rubicon) to reveal its contribution to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma after chemoradiotherapy.

Methods: To evaluate the clinical significance of Rubicon, immunohistochemistry was performed, and Rubicon expression was analyzed across 81 specimens resected from patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether circulating tumor HPV16 DNA (ctHPV16DNA) can predict treatment outcomes for patients with advanced HPV16-related oropharyngeal cancer undergoing radiation therapy.
  • Researchers collected blood samples from 22 patients during treatment and found that patients with a slow clearance of ctHPV16DNA had a higher risk of treatment failure, with 100% failure risk after 60 Gy of radiation.
  • The findings suggest that monitoring ctHPV16DNA levels can aid in identifying patients who may need more intensive treatment based on their clearance profile, indicating potential improved survival rates for those with rapid clearance.

Smear microscopic examination and culture of the corneal scrapings are the gold standards for the diagnosis of bacterial keratoconjunctivitis. High-sensitivity molecular biological examinations of the ocular surface specimens are used clinically. However, the results require careful interpretation to avoid the unintentional detection of indigenous bacteria.

Regorafenib has shown significant survival benefit as a salvage therapy for colorectal cancer; however, its starting dose has been controversial in recent studies. Therefore, we conducted a prospective study on the efficacy and safety of the dose reduction of regorafenib to 120 mg. Patients received 120 mg regorafenib once per day for 3 weeks, followed by a 1-week off-treatment period.

Despite the effectiveness of imatinib, most gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) develop resistance to the treatment, mainly due to the reactivation of KIT tyrosine kinase activity. Sunitinib, which inhibits the phosphorylation of KIT and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) receptor, has been established as second-line therapy for GISTs. The recently-developed heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) inhibitor pimitespib (PIM; TAS-116) demonstrated clinical benefits in some clinical trials; however, the effects were limited.

  • Participatory organizational interventions enhance occupational safety and health but lack a widely accepted definition, prompting a study to establish one.
  • The researchers developed a draft definition based on existing literature and refined it through multiple discussions and feedback from 15 experts in occupational safety and health.
  • The final proposed definition includes planned actions targeting working conditions to promote the well-being of all workers, emphasizing that ideally, all workers should be involved in all intervention steps, although elected representatives may participate in some cases.
