We investigate the generic transport in a one-dimensional strongly correlated fermionic chain beyond linear response. Starting from a Gaussian wave packet with positive momentum on top of the ground state, we find that the numerical time evolution splits the signal into at least three distinct fractional charges moving with different velocities. A fractional left-moving charge is expected from conventional Luttinger liquid theory, but for the prediction of the two separate right-moving packets the nonlinearity of the dispersion must also be taken into account.

Although often viewed as detrimental, fluctuations carry valuable information about the physical system from which they emerge. Femtosecond noise correlation spectroscopy (FemNoC) has recently been established to probe the ultrafast fluctuation dynamics of thermally populated magnons by measurement of their amplitude autocorrelation. Subharmonic lock-in detection is the key technique in this method, allowing us to extract the pulse-to-pulse polarization fluctuations of two femtosecond optical pulse trains transmitted through a magnetic sample.

Amyloid-β (Aβ) is thought to be neuronally derived in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, transcripts of amyloid precursor protein (APP) and amyloidogenic enzymes are equally abundant in oligodendrocytes (OLs). By cell-type-specific deletion of Bace1 in a humanized knock-in AD model, APP, we demonstrate that OLs and neurons contribute to Aβ plaque burden.

Changes in sulfate (SO) deposition have been linked to changes in mercury (Hg) methylation in peatlands and water quality in freshwater catchments. There is little empirical evidence, however, of how quickly methyl-Hg (MeHg, a bioaccumulative neurotoxin) export from catchments might change with declining SO deposition. Here, we present responses in total Hg (THg), MeHg, total organic carbon, pH, and SO export from a peatland-dominated catchment as a function of changing SO deposition in a long-term (1998-2011), whole-ecosystem, control-impact experiment.

Time-periodic driving facilitates a wealth of novel quantum states and quantum engineering. The interplay of Floquet states and strong interactions is particularly intriguing, which we study using time-periodic fields in a one-dimensional quantum gas, modeled by a Luttinger liquid with periodically changing interactions. By developing a time-periodic operator algebra, we are able to solve and analyze the complete set of nonequilibrium steady states in terms of a Floquet-Bogoliubov ansatz and known analytic functions.

Background: Patients with schizophrenia are a high-risk population due to higher prevalences of cardiovascular risk factors and comorbidities that contribute to shorter life expectancy.

Purpose: To investigate patients with and without schizophrenia experiencing an acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in relation to guideline recommended in-hospital management, discharge medications and 5-year major adverse cardiac events (MACE: composite of all-cause mortality, rehospitalisation for reinfarction, stroke or heart failure).

Snakebite envenoming is a neglected tropical disease killing more than 100,000 people every year. Reducing the mortality and morbidity of snakebite envenoming depends on the accessibility of healthcare and antivenom, but also on sufficient knowledge on correct first aid treatment. In this review, we summarise the indications for antivenom treatment and which first-aid measures have proven effective, and which methods should be avoided, since many traditional methods of first-aid treatment of snakebites have been proven to be ineffective or even harmful.
