Listeria monocytogenes is a foodborne intracellular bacterial model pathogen. Protective immunity against Listeria depends on an effective CD8 T cell response, but very few T cell epitopes are known in mice as a common animal infection model for listeriosis. To identify epitopes, we screened for Listeria immunopeptides presented in the spleen of infected mice by mass spectrometry-based immunopeptidomics.

Colostrum and immature milk samples were collected from Czech Fleckvieh cows during their first to third lactation and the FA profiles were analyzed using multidimensional gas chromatography with a vacuum ultraviolet detector (GC×GC-VUV). The colostrum of primiparous cows contained lower levels of medium-chain and saturated fatty acids, and higher levels of mono- and unsaturated fatty acids compared to that of multiparous cows.

Similarities in demography between patient and doctor, known as social concordance, can facilitate patient-doctor interaction and may be associated with more positive patient experiences. The aim of this research is to study associations between gender concordance, age concordance and PREMs (doctor-patient communication, involvement in decision making, comprehensiveness of care and satisfaction) and to investigate whether these associations are dependent on a countries' Gender Equality Index (GEI).

They have a common root in their introduction and have found a perfect coupling in their evolution and applications. This review will focus on food analysis, where the paradigm has changed significantly over time, moving from a targeted analysis, focusing on a limited number of analytes at the time, to a more holistic approach for assessing quality in a larger sense.

Volatile organic compounds emitted by flowers were trapped for a total of 42 samples by in-vivo sampling dynamic head space for analysing floral scent by untargeted approach, while 37 samples of nectar were collected for analysing fatty acids through profiling analysis. The resulting data from floral scent analysis were aligned and compared using a tile-based methodology followed by data mining to access high-level information.

The efficiency of a single 30-min extraction, already explored in previous work, was compared with that of multiple shorter extractions. We evaluated three different conditions, i.

The specific high-concentration-capacity probe used is characterized by a sorbent volume (63 μL) intermediate between the solid-phase microextraction (SPME) fiber (0.6 μL) and the stir-bar sorptive extraction rod (126 μL).

Despite a high mortality rate and increasing antibiotic resistance no clinically approved vaccine against Listeria is available. Attenuated Listeria strains offer protection and are tested as antitumor vaccine vectors, but would benefit from a better knowledge on immunodominant vector antigens.

Aim: To investigate the association of gender concordance and age concordance on referral rates in primary care in The Netherlands.
Moyamoya disease (MMD) is a rare cerebrovascular disorder with unknown etiology. MMD is characterized by progressive narrowing of arteries of the brain and the formation of a compensatory network of fragile vessels. Genetic studies have identified RNF213, also known as mysterin, as a susceptibility gene for MMD, but the low penetrance in genetically susceptible individuals suggests that a second hit is necessary to trigger disease onset.

The goal of this study was to investigate the incidence of TRALI in intensive care units (ICU) following the replacement of quarantined fresh frozen plasma (qFFP) by SDP.
Study Design And Methods: A retrospective multicenter observational before-after cohort study was performed during two 6-month periods, before (April-October 2014) and after the introduction of SDP (April-October 2015), accounting for a washout period.
Background: Transfusion is very common in the intensive care unit (ICU), but practice is highly variable, as has recently been shown in non-bleeding critically ill patients practices survey. Bleeding patients in ICU require different blood products across a range of specific patient categories. We hypothesize that a large variety in transfusion practice exists in bleeding patients.

Not surprisingly, many viruses encode deISGylating activities to antagonize its effect. Here we show that infection by Zika, SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses induce ISG15-modifying enzymes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFISG15 is an interferon-stimulated, ubiquitin-like protein that can conjugate to substrate proteins (ISGylation) to counteract microbial infection, but the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. Here, we use a virus-like particle trapping technology to identify ISG15-binding proteins and discover Ring Finger Protein 213 (RNF213) as an ISG15 interactor and cellular sensor of ISGylated proteins. RNF213 is a poorly characterized, interferon-induced megaprotein that is frequently mutated in Moyamoya disease, a rare cerebrovascular disorder.

One such protein is ISG15, a ubiquitin-like protein (UBL) conserved among vertebrates. Similar to ubiquitin, ISG15 covalently conjugates to lysine residues in substrate proteins in a process called ISGylation.

It is however not known whether an interaction of gender influences antibiotic prescribing. This study examined GP's prescribing behavior of antibiotics at the first presentation of patients with sore throat symptoms in primary care.
