Background: To restore breast sensibility, some centers are offering nerve reconstruction as a component of implant and flap-based breast reconstruction. To interpret and contextualize the results of these procedures, it is necessary to understand the normal range of breast sensibility, the factors that affect it, and the best methods for its objective measurement.
Methods: We conducted systematic and comprehensive searches across PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases using keywords and controlled vocabulary for the concepts of the breast, nipple, areola, and measurement.
Spinal accessory nerve (SAN) palsy is typically a result of posterior triangle surgery and can present with partial or complete paralysis of the trapezius muscle and severe shoulder dysfunction. We share an atypical case of a patient who presented with SAN palsy following an injury sustained playing competitive volleyball. A 19-year-old right hand dominant competitive volleyball player presented with right shoulder weakness, dyskinesia, and pain.

Painful neuromas result from traumatic injuries of the hand and digits and cause substantial physical disability, psychological distress, and decreased quality of life among affected patients. The regenerative peripheral nerve interface (RPNI) is a novel surgical technique that involves implanting the divided end of a peripheral nerve into a free muscle graft for the purposes of mitigating neuroma formation and facilitating prosthetic limb control. The RPNI is effective in treating and preventing neuroma pain in major extremity amputations.

The objectives of this study were to examine whether a maternal history of maltreatment in childhood has a detrimental impact on young children's mental health and to test theoretically and empirically informed pathways by which maternal history may influence child mental health. Mother-child dyads (N = 187) were evaluated between birth and 64 months of age via home and laboratory observations, medical and child protection record reviews, and maternal interviews to assess maternal history of childhood maltreatment and microsystem and exosystem measures of the caregiving context, including child maltreatment, maternal caregiving quality, stress exposures, and social support. Attachment theory provides a framework for elucidating the ways in which maternal PTSD may increase offspring PTSD vulnerability. The current study utilized two independent prospective data sets to test the hypotheses that (a) maternal PTSD increases the probability of developing an insecure mother-infant attachment relationship and (b) an insecure mother-infant attachment relationship increases the risk of developing PTSD following trauma exposure in later life.

Adolescent conflict was predicted to partially mediate EIPV and dating violence with significant direct paths from EIPV to dating violence, given the extant literature on the salience of early childhood EIPV for later maladjustment. A developmental systems perspective postulates that complex, multi-level G×E effects are likely contributors to depression.
Methods: Participants from families experiencing low-income status at birth were followed over 28 years.
In the longitudinal study reported here, we examined genetic and caregiving-based contributions to individual differences in infant attachment classifications. For 154 mother-infant pairs, we rated mothers' responsiveness to their 6-month-old infants during naturalistic interactions and classified infants' attachment organization at 12 and 18 months using the Strange Situation procedure. These infants were later genotyped with respect to the serotonin-transporter-linked polymorphic region (5-HTTLPR).

Stable, cross-situational CPs at school entry (5-6 years) were predicted by negative infancy parenting, mediated by mutually angry and hostile mother-toddler interactions at 24-42 months. Mother-child interactions late in toddlerhood were especially relevant for CPs.

Purpose: To determine the frequency and distribution of horizontal misalignment in patients with unilateral superior oblique palsy (SOP) and to determine the indications for combining horizontal with vertical strabismus surgery.
Methods: Patients included in the study had a vertical heterophoria or tropia that fit Parks three-step test for SOP and had no previous strabismus surgery or other ocular motility disturbance. Ocular motility and alignment were recorded.
The purpose of this study is to optimize poly(3,4,-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) polymerization into decellular nerve scaffolding for interfacing to peripheral nerves. Our ultimate aim is to permanently implant highly conductive peripheral nerve interfaces between amputee, stump, nerve fascicles and prosthetic electronics. Decellular nerve (DN) scaffolds are an FDA approved biomaterial (Axogen ) with the flexible tensile properties needed for successful permanent coaptation to peripheral nerves.
