Article Synopsis
  • * Twenty-eight male rats were divided into four groups to analyze sperm parameters, testicular tissue histology, and biochemical markers related to oxidative stress and blood-testis barrier function.
  • * Results showed that both ADMSC-CM injection and varicocelectomy improved sperm quality and decreased oxidative stress without a significant difference in preserving testicular histology, indicating that ADMSC-CM could be a promising treatment method for varicocele.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the impact of psychological stress on erectile dysfunction (ED) in male patients following the Gaziantep-Kahramanmaras earthquake. The investigation aimed to establish correlations between earthquake-induced stress and changes in sexual function using International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scores.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on male ED patients from a Gaziantep urology clinic post-earthquake (March to August 2023).

Introduction: Lifelong premature ejaculation (LPE) is a subtype of premature ejaculation. Genetic research on LPE has primarily focused on neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, whereas LPE treatment studies have focused on drugs such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. However, findings from genetic association and pharmacotherapeutic studies have been inconsistent.

Hard-flaccid syndrome (HFS) is a poorly understood condition of male sexual dysfunction (MSD) that has more recently become a new topic of discussion in online forums and sexual medicine conferences. There has been limited research looking into HFS and consequently there are no evidence-based guidelines for its work-up and management. In order to identify the current level of understanding of HFS in the sexual medicine community, a survey was distributed at a national urologic conference focusing on pertinent management strategies employed by practitioners, and their own thoughts on HFS.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) is a prevalent and complex issue with varied treatment options and no definitive guidelines, leading to differing management practices internationally.
  • A comprehensive survey with 336 responses from specialists in 49 countries explored current medical and surgical strategies for NOA, analyzing results against existing guidelines and offering expert recommendations.
  • Key findings included diverse approaches to hormonal therapy, significant variation in sperm retrieval success rates, and differing protocols around varicocele repair and follicle-stimulating hormone cutoff levels for sperm retrieval.

Article Synopsis
  • * Conducted from July to September 2022, a questionnaire gathered responses from 367 doctors in 49 countries, focusing on how they diagnose NOA through methods like hormone tests and genetic analyses.
  • * The survey identified that while many practices align with guidelines, significant differences in approaches were found, underscoring the need for standardized, evidence-based international guidelines for NOA evaluation.

Article Synopsis
  • * Although surgical treatments for PE are not widely recommended by guidelines, they have been performed for years, particularly in Asia, primarily aiming to reduce penile sensitivity.
  • * This review evaluates various surgical options, highlighting glans penis augmentation as a less invasive option needing retreatment, while selective dorsal neurectomy offers a more invasive but potentially curative approach, though more research is needed before surgeries are commonly endorsed.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates global practices and challenges in using sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) assays, which can affect male reproductive potential, as outlined in the latest WHO manual.
  • A survey of 436 reproductive clinicians revealed that the most popular SDF assay is TUNEL, with a significant influence from availability on their choices.
  • Clinicians see the value of SDF testing in understanding infertility but face barriers like insufficient professional guidelines and a lack of accepted reference values for interpreting SDF results.

Article Synopsis
  • The meta-analysis investigates the effects of varicocele repair on semen parameters in infertile males, combining data from diverse studies without language restrictions.
  • A total of 351 studies were analyzed, revealing significant improvements in several semen parameters post-repair, including semen volume, sperm concentration, total sperm count, motility, and morphology, while sperm vitality showed no improvement.
  • This research is the largest of its kind and highlights the benefits of varicocele repair for male infertility, contributing valuable insights for clinical practice.

Background: While premature ejaculation (PE) is a common and disturbing sexual dysfunction in men, current available treatment modalities have limited efficacy and low treatment adherence.

Aim: To assess the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of the vPatch, a miniaturized on-demand perineal transcutaneous electrical stimulation device for treating PE.

Methods: This prospective bicenter international first-in-human clinical study consisted of 2 arms, was sham controlled, and had a randomized double-blind design.

Article Synopsis
  • Infertility is a global issue affecting about 186 million people, with male factors contributing to around half of all cases, indicating a growing prevalence of male infertility over the past 40 years.
  • The field of Andrology, which focuses on male reproductive health, has faced challenges due to cultural neglect regarding male partners in infertility diagnosis and treatment, and reliance on assisted reproductive techniques (ART) may overlook the importance of male gamete quality.
  • Recent advancements in Andrology, including research on genetics, oxidative stress, and innovative technologies like artificial intelligence and gene engineering, highlight a critical need for further studies to better understand male infertility and improve ART outcomes.

Purpose: Despite the significant role of varicocele in the pathogenesis of male infertility, the impact of varicocele repair (VR) on conventional semen parameters remains controversial. Only a few systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SRMAs) have evaluated the impact of VR on sperm concentration, total motility, and progressive motility, mostly using a before-after analytic approach. No SRMA to date has evaluated the change in conventional semen parameters after VR compared to untreated controls.

Premature ejaculation (PE) is a prevalent male sexual dysfunction. Current standard treatment regimens include behavioural therapies, topical anaesthetics, dapoxetine and other selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Most of the pharmacotherapeutic options target neurotransmitters (such as serotonin and oxytocin) that have a role in the ejaculation mechanism.

Conservative and medical treatments are considered the first step in ischemic priapism (IP) management, although there is no clear evidence regarding their efficacy. We conducted a systematic review on behalf of the EAU Guidelines panel on Sexual and Reproductive health to analyse the available evidence on the efficacy and safety of conservative and medical treatment for non-sickle cell disease-related IP. Databases searched for relevant literature investigating efficacy and safety of conservative measures and medical treatment for IP included Medline, EMBASE, Cochrane Libraries and clinicaltrial.
