Unlabelled: Esophageal perforations of any cause may escape early diagnosis and progress to lethal mediastinitis despite aggressive management. The treatment and outcome depends on the extent and chronicity of the injury.

A postpneumonectomy bronchopleural fistula is a life-threatening complication requiring aggressive treatment and early repair. Reoperations are common due to initial treatment failure. Advanced bronchoscopic techniques are rapidly evolving, but permanent results are questionable.
