We aimed to explore the potential link of maternal age at menarche (mAAM) gene polymorphisms with risk of the fetal growth restriction (FGR). This case (FGR)-control (FGR free) study included 904 women (273 FGR and 631 control) in the third trimester of gestation examined/treated in the Departments of Obstetrics. For single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) multiplex genotyping, 50 candidate loci of mAAM were chosen.

Background: We investigated the effect of obesity on the association of genome-wide associative studies (GWAS)-significant genes with the risk of knee osteoarthritis (KOA).

Methods: All study participants (n = 1,100) were divided into 2 groups in terms of body mass index (BMI): BMI ≥ 30 (255 KOA patients and 167 controls) and BMI < 30 (245 KOA and 433 controls). The eight GWAS-significant KOA single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of six candidate genes, such as LYPLAL1 (rs2820436, rs2820443), SBNO1 (rs1060105, rs56116847), WWP2 (rs34195470), NFAT5 (rs6499244), TGFA (rs3771501), GDF5 (rs143384), were genotyped.

Hemophagocytic syndrome is a key point in the pathogenesis of severe forms of multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with COVID-19 in children (MIS-C). The factors associated with hemophagocytosis in patients with MIS-C were assessed in the present study of 94 boys and 64 girls ranging in age from 4 months to 17 years, each of whose HScore was calculated. In accordance with a previous analysis, patients with HScore ≤ 91 ( = 79) and HScore > 91 ( = 79) were compared.

There are no data on the daily regimen of compression therapy in patients with chronic venous disease. This systematic review aimed to establish the optimal daily duration of compression treatment. A systematic search of CENTRAL and MEDLINE was performed to identify RCTs, non-RCTs, reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and guidelines evaluating the use of compression regimens in the treatment of varicose veins.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focuses on Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) related to COVID-19, a severe condition often requiring ICU care.
  • It analyzed 166 patients, finding that older children and those exhibiting specific symptoms like rashes, swelling, and respiratory issues were more likely to experience severe MIS-C.
  • Key predictors for severe cases included significant increases in certain blood markers (CRP, troponin, D-dimer) and physical signs such as hepatomegaly and splenomegaly, which could help identify at-risk patients early on.

The causative agent of the new coronavirus infection SARS-CoV-2 has unique properties causing hyperinflammatory syndrome and cytokine storm, as well as widespread endotheliitis and thrombotic microangiopathy, initially detected in the lungs of adult patients who died from a severe form of the disease. Venous and arterial thrombosis in adults were identified as common causes of severe complications and deaths in new coronavirus infections. There are very few reports of thrombotic events in children with COVID-19 in the literature.

The aim of this study was to explore the effects of pre-pregnancy overweight/obesity on the pattern of association of hypertension susceptibility genes with preeclampsia (PE). Ten single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the 10 genome-wide association studies (GWAS)-significant hypertension/blood pressure (BP) candidate genes were genotyped in 950 pregnant women divided into two cohorts according to their pre-pregnancy body mass index (preBMI): preBMI ≥ 25 (162 with PE and 159 control) and preBMI < 25 (290 with PE and 339 control). The PLINK software package was utilized to study the association (analyzed four genetic models using logistic regression).

The efficacy and safety of gonadal vein embolization (GVE) with coils in the treatment of pelvic venous disease (PeVD) has not been fully investigated, and the outcomes after GVE do not always meet expectations of both doctors and patients. The study was aimed at assessing the incidence and causes of the complications after GVE with coils in patients with PeVD. This retrospective cohort study included 150 female patients with PeVD who underwent GVE with coils in 2000-2020.

Background: Vein-specific inflammation leads to vascular smooth muscle cells proliferation and extracellular matrix degradation of vein wall. This process is known as remodeling and is promoted by "trapped" leukocytes. Monocyte chemoattractant protein 1 (MCP-1) is a chemokine responsible for trafficking of leukocytes from blood to vein wall.

Objective: Analysis of the role of genetic polymorphisms of matrix metalloproteinases (), their gene-gene and gene-environment interactions in the formation of ischemic stroke in men with arterial hypertension (AI).

Material And Methods: The study included 523 men with arterial hypertension: 201 patients with ischemic stroke and 322 patients without stroke. The association of loci with stroke with hypertension was determined by logistic regression analysis in dominant, recessive, additive genetic models in PLINK v.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an established independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) and is caused by chronic pyelonephritis (CP). This study aimed to investigate the effect of the association of cardiovascular markers with the course of CP on the comorbidity of CP with ischemic heart disease. The study participants included 125 patients with CP without symptoms of urinary tract obstruction who were divided into three groups.

Background: Key reactions in folate-mediated single-carbon metabolism are regulated by folate cycle enzymes. Violations of the folate cycle may be associated with the occurrence of fetal growth restriction (FGR) in pregnant women.

Objective: To study the relationship between polymorphisms of folate cycle genes in the mother with the development of FGR.

The causes of chronic pelvic pain (CPP) in patients with pelvic venous disorder (PeVD) are not completely understood. Various authors consider dilation of pelvic veins (PeVs) and pelvic venous reflux (PVR) as the main mechanisms underlying symptomatic forms of PeVD. The aim of this study was to assess relationships of pelvic vein dilation and PVR with clinical manifestations of PeVD.

Diagnostic between multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with COVID-19 in children (MIS-C) and Kawasaki disease (KD) can make difficulties due to many similarities. Our study aimed to create a Kawasaki/MIS-C differentiation score (KMDscore) allowing discrimination of MIS-C and KD. The retrospective multicenter cohort study included clinical, laboratory, and instrumental information about MIS-C ( = 72) and KD ( = 147).
