The expression of both lactate dehydrogenase A (LDH-A) and glucose transporter type 1 (GLUT1) is high in pancreatic, thoracic and many other types of cancer. GLUT1 is also highly expressed in endothelial cells (EC), that play an important role in tumor metastasis. We investigated the effect of inhibition of LDH-A by NHI-2 and GLUT1 by PGL14 on cellular migration, a hallmark of metastasis, in relation to changes in intracellular purine nucleotide and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide pools in a human microvascular endothelial cell line (HMEC-1).

Objectives: Lactate dehydrogenase A (LDH-A) catalyzes the last step of glycolysis: supplying cells rapidly but inefficiently with ATP. Many tumors, including malignant mesothelioma (MM), have a high expression of LDH-A, which is associated with cancer aggressiveness. We aimed to determine whether the efficacy of the gemcitabine/carboplatin (Gem + Carbo) combination, widely used to treat this disease, could be increased by inhibition of LDH-A (by NHI-2).

Recent studies have revealed a novel mechanism of chemoresistance acquisition: the transfer of information via exosomes, small vesicles secreted by various cells. Exosomes play a crucial role in intercellular communication by carrying proteins, nucleic acids, and metabolites, influencing cancer cell behavior and response to treatment.

The FRagment Separator FRS at GSI is a versatile spectrometer and separator for experiments with relativistic in-flight separated short-lived exotic beams. One branch of the FRS is connected to the target hall where the bio-medical cave (Cave M) is located. Recently a joint activity between the experimental groups of the FRS and the biophysics at the GSI and Department of physics at LMU was started to perform biomedical experiments relevant for hadron therapy with positron emitting carbon and oxygen beams.

PC is characterized by a high expression of the glucose transporter GLUT-1 and of lactate dehydrogenase A (LDH-A). The novel LDH-A inhibitor NHI-Glc-2 was designed for a better uptake via GLUT-1 and was shown to be cytotoxic against the PC cell line PANC-1.

The presence of KISS and RFRP-3 in the porcine pituitary gland and their contribution to the regulation of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) synthesis and secretion is unknown. This study analyzed the presence of KISS and RFRP-3 in the pituitary of estrous-cyclic pigs on days 2 to 3, 10 to 11, 12 to 13, 15 to 16 and 19 to 20 and early pregnant pigs on days 10 to 11, 12 to 13 and 15 to 16, and evaluated the effect of KISS and RFRP-3 on β-Fsh mRNA expression and FSH secretion in vitro by pituitary cells collected on selected days of the estrous cycle.

This study was conducted to determine whether EMF [50 and 120 Hz, 2 and 4 h of incubation in the presence or absence of progesterone (P, 10 M)] affects androgen synthesis and release from the pig endometrium. Endometrial slices were collected from pigs (n = 5) during the fetal peri-implantation period (i.

IRI arises from increased degradation of myosin light chains and increased activity of matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP-2). Increased production of toxic peroxynitrite (ONOO) during oxidative stress is a source of increased nitration/nitrosylation of contractile proteins, which enhance their degradation through MMP-2.

These effects are mainly reported through case reports. We conducted an individual patient data meta-analysis to assess the prevalence of clinical, laboratory, and magnetic resonance findings in association with NO exposure in medical and recreational settings.

As molecular pathways and mechanisms involved in Tacrolimus-induced fibrogenic response are poorly elucidated, we assessed whether miRNAs are involved in the nephrotoxic effects mediated by Tacrolimus. Treatment of CD-1 mice with Tacrolimus (1 mg/kg/d for 28 days) resulted in kidney injury and was associated with alteration of a gene expression signature associated with cellular stress, fibrosis and inflammation.

The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of an EMF on the synthesis and secretion of oestradiol-17β (E) in the porcine uterus. Endometrial and myometrial slices were harvested on days 12-13 of the oestrous cycle and exposed in vitro to an EMF (50 and 120 Hz, 8 mT) for 2 and 4 h in the presence or absence of progesterone (P).

Methods: This is a retrospective study of 1,171 consecutive patients referred to the sleep laboratory with complaints suggestive of OSA who underwent standard diagnostic polysomnography. In total, 454 patients with no History of arterial hypertension nor had received any such treatment were selected from this group.
We have studied in the porcine endometrium the expression of oxytocin receptor (OTR) mRNA and the effect of progesterone (P4) on oxytocin/oxytocin receptor (OT/OTR) function concerning intracellular Ca2+ mobilisation ([Ca2+]i), prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha) and E2 (PGE2; PG) secretion. Tissue was taken from cyclic and early pregnant pigs (days 14-16). A higher expression of OTR mRNA (P < 0.

Porcine (Sus scrofa domestica) uterine slices harvested during both early pregnancy and luteolysis produce steroid hormones. The aim of the present study was to determine (1) which porcine separated uterine cells secrete androgens: androstenedione (A(4)) and testosterone (T), and estradiol-17beta (E(2)) in culture; (2) if the production of A(4), T and E(2) in the uterine cells is regulated by P4 and OT; (3) if uterine tissues expressed cytochrome P450arom gene (CYP19). Uteri were collected on Days 14 to 16 of early pregnancy and the estrous cycle.

In this study, the effects of OT on in vitro progesterone (P4) secretion, phosphoinositide (PI) hydrolysis and intracellular mobilisation of Ca2+ ([Ca2+]i) were investigated in porcine luteal cells during the early (days 3-5), mid(days 8-10) and late luteal phases (days 12-14) of the oestrous cycle. Basal concentrations of P4 and accumulation of inositol phosphates (IPs) were higher (P < 0.
