Article Synopsis
  • - Tissue nanotransfection (TNT) uses plasmids (Etv2, Foxc2, and Fli1) to enhance the formation of vasculogenic fibroblasts (VF) in ischemic skin of mice, promoting new blood vessel growth.
  • - In vitro studies show that human dermal fibroblasts exhibit increased endothelial gene expression upon EFF nanoelectroporation, with a link to higher ten-eleven translocase (TET) expression.
  • - The study demonstrates that TET activation is crucial for VF development in diabetic ischemic limbs, facilitating blood flow restoration and improved wound healing, especially since TET levels are usually lower in diabetic conditions.

Tissue injury to skin diminishes miR-200b in dermal fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are widely reported to directly reprogram into endothelial-like cells and we hypothesized that miR-200b inhibition may cause such changes. We transfected human dermal fibroblasts with anti-miR-200b oligonucleotide, then using single cell RNA sequencing, identified emergence of a vasculogenic subset with a distinct fibroblast transcriptome and demonstrated blood vessel forming function in vivo.

Background: The rising prevalence of insulin resistance (IR), metabolic syndrome, and type 2 diabetes are associated with increases in abdominal mesenteric fat. Adipocytes are sensitive to low temperatures, making cryolipolysis of mesenteric fat an attractive treatment modality to potentially reduce IR.

Objectives: We aimed to determine whether (1) cryolipolysis is safe in reducing the volume of the mesenteric fat and (2) reduction in mesenteric fat volume reduces indices of IR and glycemic dysfunction.

Background: Weight regain (WR) post bariatric surgery affects almost 20% of patients. It has been theorized that a complex interplay between physiologic adaptations and epigenetic mechanisms promotes WR in obesity, however, reliable predictors have not been identified. Our study examines the relationship between early postoperative weight loss (WL), nadir weight (NW), and WR following laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).

The aim of this research paper is to conduct a systematic review of periparturient complications as risk factors of postpartum psychosis. The investigation of risk factors for maternal psychosis following childbirth is complicated by the risk of confounding by a previous psychiatric history; therefore, this systematic review focuses on labor complications as risk factors among women without any previous psychiatric hospitalizations or diagnoses. Articles were collected and analyzed from the PubMed, MEDLINE, and Cochrane Review Library databases, as well as Clinicaltrials.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has various neuropsychiatric manifestations, including psychotic, mood, anxiety disorders, trauma-related disorders, and cognitive disorders, such as delirium. Although the psychosocial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic contribute to an increase in psychiatric comorbidities, the COVID-19 virus is also an independent risk factor. Previous studies have revealed that the virus can invade the neural tissue, which causes an imbalance of neurotransmitters that cause neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Muscle stem cells (MuSCs) are essential for tissue homeostasis and regeneration, but the potential contribution of MuSC morphology to in vivo function remains unknown. Here, we demonstrate that quiescent MuSCs are morphologically heterogeneous and exhibit different patterns of cellular protrusions. We classified quiescent MuSCs into three functionally distinct stem cell states: responsive, intermediate, and sensory.

Therapeutic vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) replenishment has met with limited success for the management of critical limb-threatening ischemia. To improve outcomes of VEGF therapy, we applied single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology to study the endothelial cells of the human diabetic skin. Single-cell suspensions were generated from the human skin followed by cDNA preparation using the Chromium Next GEM Single-cell 3' Kit v3.

Background: Studies of patients who have undergone surgery while infected with COVID-19 have shown increased risks for adverse outcomes in both pulmonary complications and mortality. It has become clear that the risk of complications from perioperative COVID-19 infection must be weighed against the risk from delayed surgical treatment. Studies have also shown that prior bariatric surgery conveys protection against mortality from COVID-19 and that obesity is the biggest risk factor for mortality from COVID-19 infection in adults under 45 years of age.

The past decade has seen a rapid increase in the number of studies employing psychophysiological methods to explain variation in political attitudes and behavior. However, the collection, analysis, and interpretation of physiological data present novel challenges for political scientists unfamiliar with the underlying biological concepts and technical skills necessary for utilizing this approach. Our objective in this article is to maximize the effectiveness of future work utilizing psychophysiological measurement by providing guidance on how the techniques can be employed most fruitfully as a complement to, not a replacement for, existing methods.

Manual retraction, a task performed to expose the surgical site, poses a high risk for musculoskeletal disorders that affect the hands, arms, shoulders, neck, and back. In recent years, minimally invasive and laparoscopic procedures have led to the development of multifunctional instruments and retractors capable of performing these functions that, in many cases, has eliminated the need for manual retraction. During surgical procedures that are not performed endoscopically, the use of self-retaining retractors enables the assistant to handle tissue and use exposure techniques that do not require prolonged manual retraction.
