Breast cancer: Is grief a risk factor?

Cancer is characterized by the disordered growth of cells that have high capacity of invasion to the tissues and organs. One of the types of tumour that has national incidence and high mortality is breast cancer. Studies show that in addition to hereditary factors, lifestyle and environmental factors, there are factors related to emotional distress (mourning), which interfere with the development of breast cancer.

Teleconsultations in public primary care units of the city of belo horizonte, Brazil: profile of patients and physicians.

Objective: The aim of this study is to report patient and physician profiles of those who used the teleconsultation system in the primary care health units of a health district in the city of Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil.

Materials And Methods: Data were collected from the telehealth attendance records of nine Primary Health Units (Unidade Básica de Saúde [UBS] in Portuguese) and from interviews carried out with the referring physicians. The criteria for inclusion required that data come from users seen by means of telehealth in the period between December 2004 and August 2010 and from the practitioners who saw them.

Benefits and limitations of the use of glucose for the treatment of pain in neonates: a literature review.

This article aims to review the main studies evaluating glucose as a therapeutic alternative during mildly to moderately painful procedures in neonatology, highlighting its benefits and limitations. During their stay in neonatal intensive care units, neonates are constantly subjected to a number of painful procedures without proper therapeutic management, although the medical literature emphatically recommends this type of management, highlighting the deleterious neurological consequences of pain. Most of these interventions are frequently necessary in neonatal intensive care units to maintain clinical stability in these children; the use of systemic analgesia, however, is not considered to be a good option.

[Ethics and eHealth: reflections for a safe practice].

The term eHealth (or telemedicine, telehealth) has been used to describe activities that employ information and telecommunication technologies to deliver health care. Distance is an important factor hindering the delivery of many important services, such as diagnosis, treatment, prevention, health promotion, and health research assessment. Although eHealth can provide interesting solutions such as a second specialist opinion in geographically isolated areas, a large number of ethical and legal issues must be considered.

Topical anesthesia in preterm neonate: a reflection on the underutilization in clinical practice.

Premature neonates are customarily submitted to invasive painful procedures during their stay in NICUs that are necessary to maintain their clinically stability. Topical anesthesia is a good option to be considered in the treatment of interventions that lead to mild to moderate pain and has the advantage of no systemic effects. In Brazil the most known topical anesthetic available for use is the eutectic mixture of local anesthetics (EMLA® cream).
