Subcutaneous Ketamine in Depression: A Systematic Review.

Ketamine has been shown to produce a rapid and robust antidepressant effect. Though numerous routes of administration have been studied, subcutaneous (SC) has proven to be a convenient and cost-effective route making its use particularly relevant in developing countries. Here we provide a systematic review covering the use of SC racemic ketamine and esketamine in depression, including its efficacy, safety and tolerability.

Clinical and demographic differences between voluntary and involuntary psychiatric admissions in a university hospital in Brazil.

To assess the frequency of involuntary psychiatric hospitalizations from 2001 to 2008 and to determine associated clinical and socio-demographic characteristics, a retrospective cohort study was conducted. Adult admission data were collected from a university hospital in Brazil. Hospitalizations were classified as voluntary (VH) or involuntary (IH).

Prevalence and correlates of alcoholism in community-dwelling elderly living in São Paulo, Brazil.

Objectives: To assess the prevalence of alcoholism in elderly living in the city of São Paulo (Brazil) and investigate associated risk factors.

Methods: A total of 1,563 individuals aged 60 years or older, of both genders of three districts of different socioeconomic classes (high, medium and low) in the city of São Paulo (Brazil) were interviewed. The CAGE screening test for alcoholism was applied and a structured interview was used to assess associated sociodemographic and clinical factors.
