Impact of multiple maize technology package adoption on the production efficiency and food security of smallholder farmers in Ethiopia: Evidence from the Sidama region.

This study aimed to investigate the individual or combined impacts of multiple maize technology package adoption on the production efficiency and food security of smallholder farmers in the selected districts of Sidama region of Ethiopia. The cross-sectional data of 424 sample farmers owing 545 maize plots were collected using multistage sampling approaches. The selection-bias corrected multinomial endogenous switching regression (MESR) model was employed to assess the impact of improved maize seed, chemical fertilizers, and row planting adoption on the production efficiency and food security of smallholder maize-producing farmers.

Purpose: This study aimed to estimate using anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) and good and bad practices about dietary supplements among resistance-trained individuals. It further seeked to determine the use of common drugs and supplements containing anabolic steroids among resistance-trained individuals (who work out at the sports centre) and assess users' knowledge about its side effects.

Breast Reconstruction after a Bilateral Mastectomy Using the BRAVA Expansion System and Fat Grafting.

Fat graft breast reconstruction following a mastectomy is always limited by the size of the skin envelope, which affects the amount of graft that can be injected in 1 session. Because the fat graft naturally resorbs in all patients, several sessions of fat grafting are necessary. BRAVA's negative pressure causes a "reverse" expansion of the skin envelope, thus permitting more space for the fat graft.

Estimation of HIV incidence in Malawi from cross-sectional population-based sero-prevalence data.

ABSTRACT: BACKGROUND: Incidence is a better measure than prevalence for monitoring AIDS, but it is not often used because longitudinal HIV data from which incidence can be computed is scarce. Our objective was to estimate the force of infection and incidence of HIV in Malawi using cross-sectional HIV sero-prevalence data from the Malawi Demographic and Health Survey conducted in 2004. METHODS: We formulated a recurrence relation of population prevalence as a function of a piecewise-constant force of HIV infection.

Colonic obstruction and perforation related to heavy Trichuris trichiura infestation.

Heavy Trichuris trichiura infestation is rare in developed countries, and complications requiring surgical intervention have been described rarely in human trichuriasis. A case of colonic obstruction and perforation related to heavy whip-worm infection is described in an 84 year old woman. The woman was admitted to hospital because of a chest infection.
