Background: Cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CSA-AKI) is a common complication of cardiac surgery and is associated with increased morbidity and mortality. External chest compressions are often ineffective for patients arresting after cardiac surgery, for whom emergency resternotomy may be required.
