Background:  The recognition of food as the trigger of attacks occurs in approximately 25% of individuals with migraine. However, differentiating migraine food triggers and prodrome symptoms is still a challenge.

Objective:  To understand the association of clinical characteristics of migraine with food triggers and to identify predictors of food triggers.

Article Synopsis
  • - Migraine affects 14.4% of people globally and involves complex biological processes including brain activation and inflammation.
  • - A study of 92 migraine patients and 88 healthy controls examined the frequency of the -899C > T (rs1800587) genetic variant and its link to migraine symptoms.
  • - Results showed that the -899C > T variant was connected to aura and osmophobia in migraine patients but not to overall susceptibility to migraines.

Background: Interactions between genetic and environmental variables contribute to the autoimmune inflammatory process in multiple sclerosis (MS). Elevated homocysteine levels, and vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folate deficiencies are some of the environmental factors associated with the pathogenesis of MS. Considering that the relationship between MTHFR 677C>T (rs1801133) genetic variant, homocysteine, and folate in patients with MS remains unclear and that their role were not extensively explored in the clinical course of the disease, we investigated whether this variant and plasma homocysteine and folate levels are associated with MS susceptibility, disability, disability progression, and inflammatory biomarkers.

Ulcerative colitis (UC) is characterized by chronic inflammation of the large intestine with involvement of Th17 cells and interleukin (IL)-17A. The role of IL17A and IL17A receptor (IL17RA) variants in pathophysiology of UC still remains inconclusive. The aim was to evaluate the association between IL17A and IL17RA variants with susceptibility, IL-17A plasma levels, and endoscopic activity in UC.

This systematic review with meta-analysis assessed the effects of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) linked to overweight or obesity in adolescents. Twenty-eight studies (cross-sectional, case-control, or cohort) were included, which described individuals with a history of ACE or adverse family experiences, such as physical, emotional, or psychological abuses; neglect; exposure to domestic violence or peer violence; and sexual abuse. Body mass index (BMI) or BMI z score was used by the study to define adolescents with overweight or obesity.

Psoriasis (PsO) is a chronic, immune-mediated, inflammatory and polygenic dermatosis associated with both physical and psychological burden that can be triggered by injury, trauma, infections and medications. The etiology of PsO is not fully elucidated but genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors are all likely to play a role. A case-control study was carried out to evaluate the frequency of the IL36G C>T (rs13392494) and the IL36G A>G (rs7584409) variants and their association with susceptibility, joint involvement and severity of PsO.

The aim was to investigate the association between plasma levels of cellular adhesion molecules (CAMs) and risk factors, subtypes, severity and short-term mortality of acute ischemic stroke (IS), and to identify a panel of biomarkers to predict short-term mortality after IS. The prospective study evaluated 132 IS patients within 24 h of their hospital admission. The baseline IS severity was assessed using the National Institutes Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and categorized as mild (NIHSS < 5), moderate (NIHSS 5-14) and severe (NIHSS ≥ 15).

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to spread globally despite the discovery of vaccines. Many people die due to COVID-19 as a result of catastrophic consequences, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary embolism, and disseminated intravascular coagulation caused by a cytokine storm. Immunopathology and immunogenetic research may assist in diagnosing, predicting, and treating severe COVID-19 and the cytokine storm associated with COVID-19.

In coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the nucleotide-binding domain, leucine-rich repeat and pyrin domain-containing protein 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is activated in response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Acute infections are accompanied by a sickness symptom complex (SSC) which is highly conserved and protects against infections and hyperinflammation. The aim of this study is to delineate the associations of COVID-19, SSC and NLPR3 rs10157379 T > C and NLPR3 rs10754558 C > G variants; and the protective role of SSC in SARS-CoV-2 infection.

This study used established biomarkers of death from ischemic stroke (IS) versus stroke survival to perform network, enrichment, and annotation analyses. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis revealed that the backbone of the highly connective network of IS death consisted of , , , , , , , and . Cluster analysis revealed immune and hemostasis subnetworks, which were strongly interconnected through the major switches and .

Objectives: Studies have demonstrated that the gut microbiota of people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is different from that of healthy individuals and could influence inflammation and oxidative stress. In this study, we sought to evaluate the effects of supplementation with a mixture of probiotics on cytokine plasma levels, inflammatory biomarkers, oxidative/nitrosative stress profile, and Disease Activity Score-28 in people with RA.

Methods: A randomized and double-blind placebo-controlled study was carried out with 42 participants with RA divided into two groups-the probiotic group (n = 21), who over 60 d took a daily ingestion of probiotics in a sachet containing 109 CFU/g each of five freeze-dried strains: Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14, Lactobacillus casei Lc-11, Lactococcus lactis Ll-23, Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04 and B.

Psoriasis is chronic, immune-mediated, inflammatory disease with a multifactorial etiology that affects the skin tissue and causes the appearance of dry and scaly lesions of anywhere on the body. The study of the pathophysiology of psoriasis reveals a network of immune cells that, together with their cytokines, initiates a chronic inflammatory response. Previously attributed to T helper (Th)1 cytokines, currently the Th17 cytokine family is the major effector in the pathogenesis of psoriatic disease and strongly influences the inflammatory pattern established during the disease activity.
