Article Synopsis
  • Atmospheric concentrations of nitrous acid, nitric acid, nitrate, and sulfate particles were measured in Guadalajara from April to June 2008, revealing that nitric acid levels were 2.7 times higher than those of nitrous acid.
  • The study found a higher average concentration of sulfur dioxide (6.9 μg m(-3)) compared to sulfate, suggesting an inverse relationship between the two; sulfur dioxide was more prevalent throughout the study period.
  • Additionally, the analysis indicated that ozone is not the primary oxidizer for nitrogen dioxide and sulfur dioxide, implying that other oxidizing agents, like the radical OH, play a significant role in atmospheric oxidation processes in the area.

In this study, the Enrichment Factors and elemental composition profiles of the PM2.5 were used to suggest the emission sources. The selected sites were Miravalle and Centro, and in both cases there were high values lead, Cadmium, Cobalt, Chromium, Cupper, Molybdenum, Nickel, Antimony, Selenium and Zinc for EF (>5), suggesting an anthropogenic origin.
