Background: Platinum-based therapies for patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have classically provided overall survival (OS) rates of six to nine months and objective response rates (ORRs) of 20-30%. Whether prior immunotherapy determines a different response to platinum is currently unknown. This study aimed to analyse the current response characteristics to platinum as a second-line treatment for advanced NSCLC (PD-L1 ≥50%) after first-line immunotherapy.

Introduction: Recent advances in the treatment of locally advanced NSCLC have led to changes in the standard of care for this disease. For the selection of the best approach strategy for each patient, it is necessary the homogenization of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, as well as the promotion of the evaluation of patients by a multidisciplinary oncology team.
Objective: Development of an expert consensus document with suggestions for the approach and treatment of locally advanced NSCLC leaded by Spanish Lung Cancer Group GECP.
Unlabelled: Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (iSGLT2) inhibitors, which include dapagliflozin, canagliflozin and empagliflozin, are a class of drugs initially used in the oral treatment of diabetes, heart failure and renal failure. They target the reabsorption of glucose in the kidney. Although they bring benefit to patients with these conditions and in general produce few adverse effects, in some cases, iSGLT2 can cause serious adverse effects such as metabolic acidosis, and fungal or bacterial urinary infections.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has undergone a major change in the last decade in terms of survival and prognosis due to the introduction of new drugs in the last 10 years. One of the drugs with the most promising preliminary results in NSCLC are PARP inhibitors (iPARPs), whose clinical trials have very heterogeneous results. The use of iPARPs in NSCLC may lead to increased survival in several selected patients, and their use may become a standard in the coming years.

Methods: We used the Thoracic Tumors Registry (TTR) as a data source representative of lung cancer cases diagnosed in Spain, and included all cases registered until 9/01/2023 which had information on age at diagnosis or the data needed to calculate it. We performed a descriptive statistical analysis and fitted logistic regressions to analyze how different characteristics influenced being a younger lung cancer patient.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to ascertain the percentage of Spanish lung cancer cases that would fulfil the lung cancer screening inclusion criteria recommended by the United States Preventive Service Task Force (USPSTF) in 2013 and 2021.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out. All lung cancer cases registered in the Thoracic Tumor Registry with data on date of birth, date of diagnosis, smoking habit, number of pack-years and time elapsed since smoking cessation were included.
Background: The burden of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains high in Spain, with lung cancer accounting for 20% of cancer-related deaths annually. Programs such as the Spanish Thoracic Tumour Registry (TTR) and the global I-O Optimise initiative have been developed to observe patients in clinical practice with the aim of improving outcomes. This analysis examined treatment patterns and survival in patients with stage III NSCLC from the TTR.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to confirm the efficacy of the ERBITAX scheme (paclitaxel 80 mg/m weekly and cetuximab 400 mg/m loading dose, and then 250 mg/m weekly) as first-line treatment for patients with recurrent/metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN) who are medically unfit for cisplatin-based (PT) chemotherapy.
Materials And Methods: This retrospective, non-interventional study involved 16 centers in Spain. Inclusion criteria were to have started receiving ERBITAX regimen from January 2012 to December 2018; histologically confirmed SCCHN including oral cavity, oropharynx, hypopharynx, and larynx; age ≥18 years; and platinum (PT) chemotherapy ineligibility due to performance status, comorbidities, high accumulated dose of PT, or PT refractoriness.
In recent years, non-small cell lung cancer treatment has been revolutionized. tyrosine kinase inhibitors and our improved understanding of its alterations have driven new diagnostic strategies. Liquid biopsies have emerged as a useful tool in these contexts, showing potential utility in early diagnosis combined with low-dose CT scans, as well as potential in monitoring treatment response and predicting the development of patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjectives: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the standard treatment for patients with unresectable, locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (LA-SCCHN); induction chemotherapy (ICT) may provide survival benefits in some patients. This study aimed to demonstrate the noninferiority of concomitant cetuximab plus radiotherapy (cet+RT) vs cisplatin plus radiotherapy (cis+RT) in patients with unresectable LA-SCCHN who were responsive to ICT.
Materials And Methods: This randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial studied patients with unresectable LA-SCCHN who received 3 cycles of ICT (docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil; TPF) followed by cis+RT (standard arm) or cet+RT (experimental arm).
Background: Determining predictive biomarkers for immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) is a current challenge in oncology. Previous studies on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have shown how gene mutations are correlated with different responses to ICIs. Strong and diffuse immuno-expression of p53 by immunohistochemistry (IHC) is interpreted as a likely indicator of a gene mutation.

However, the MMR system's involvement in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains unknown. Addressing this issue will improve clinical guidelines in the case of mutations in the main genes of the MMR system (MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2).
