Background And Hypothesis: Hospital admissions in pediatric dialysis patients need to be better studied, and most existing studies are retrospective and based on registry data. This study aimed to analyse and compare hospital admission rates, causes, length of stay (LOS), and outcomes in children treated with peritoneal dialysis (PD) and hemodialysis (HD).
Methods: Data from 236 maintenance PD and 138 HD patients across 16 European dialysis centers were collected between 1 July 2017 and 30 June 2018.

To better understand these wide variations, we assessed different factors affecting countermeasure implementation rates and applied the capability, opportunity, motivation model of behaviour to describe their determinants.
Design: We undertook this international mixed methods study of increased depth and breadth to obtain more complete data and to better understand the resulting complex evidence.

Background: We evaluated the role of CYP3A5, ABCB1 and SXR gene polymorphisms in the occurrence of acute kidney rejection in a cohort of pediatric renal transplant recipients.
Methods: Forty-nine patients were genotyped for CYP3A5, ABCB1 and SXR polymorphisms and evaluated with tacrolimus through levels in a retrospective monocenter study.
Results: Patients with the A allele of CYP3A5 treated with tacrolimus had a higher risk of acute rejection than those without the A allele, while patients carrying the homozygous GG variant for SXR A7635GG did not show any episode of acute rejection.

Achieving normal growth is one of the most challenging problems in the management of children with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Treatment with recombinant human growth hormone (GH) promotes longitudinal growth and likely enables children with CKD and short stature to reach normal adult height. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the files of patients from the Italian Pediatric Dialysis Registry's database who were registered between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2016 and treated with extracorporeal dialysis for at least 6 months, looking in particular at modality and its associated factors.
Background: Children with congenital nephrotic syndrome (CNS) commonly develop end stage renal failure in infancy and require dialysis, but little is known about the complications and outcomes of dialysis in these children.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective case note review across members of the European Society for Pediatric Nephrology Dialysis Working Group to evaluate dialysis management, complications of dialysis, and outcomes in children with CNS.

Methods: We propose a novel index of pre-HD volume overload based on blood volume (BV) monitoring, the first hour refill index (RI), calculated as the ratio between the ultrafiltration rate indexed for body weight during the first HD hour and the percent BV change at the first hour of the treatment. This parameter was retrospectively calculated in 121 sessions in 11 oligoanuric children and young adults on chronic HD, with median age 14.
Epidemiological studies show that circulating polyunsaturated fatty acids contribute to preserve renal function. In renal disease states there is generally a lack of omega-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LCPUFA) as measured in biological samples, but despite intense research for more than 30 years, it is still unclear how and to what extent their supplementation would benefit kidney disorders. Studies evaluating the n-6 series and the kidney are less frequent.
