This study examined the efficacy of computed tomography (CT)-based Hounsfield units (HU) as early predictors of aseptic bone necrosis, a serious post-cranioplasty complication after autologous cranioplasty. In total, 100 patients who underwent decompressive craniectomy and subsequent autologous cranioplasty were included. The radiodensity of the bone flap was evaluated in HU from CT scans at five follow-up timepoints.
