Purpose: To develop a method for quantifying the fatty acid composition (FAC) of human epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) using accelerated MRI and identify its potential for detecting proinflammatory biomarkers in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
Methods: A multi-echo radial gradient-echo sequence was developed for accelerated imaging during a breath hold using a locally low-rank denoising technique to reconstruct undersampled images. FAC mapping was achieved by fitting the multi-echo images to a multi-resonance complex signal model based on triglyceride characterization.
Importance: Following treatment, breast cancer survivors face challenges participating in valued activities.
Objective: To determine whether a telephone-based coaching rehabilitation intervention enhances activity participation in the year following breast cancer treatment.
Design, Setting, And Participants: In this multisite, single-blind randomized clinical trial (Optimizing Functional Recovery of Breast Cancer Survivors), recruitment occurred between August 28, 2019, and April 30, 2022.
Objective: To develop a severity-adjusted, hospital-level benchmarking comparative performance report for postoperative organ space infection (OSI) and antibiotic utilization in children with complicated appendicitis.
Background: No benchmarking data exist to aid hospitals in identifying and prioritizing opportunities for infection prevention or antimicrobial stewardship in children with complicated appendicitis.
Methods: This was a multicenter cohort study using National Surgical Quality Improvement Program-Pediatric data from 16 hospitals participating in a regional research consortium, augmented with antibiotic utilization data obtained through supplemental chart review.
Importance: Gangrenous, suppurative, and exudative (GSE) findings have been associated with increased surgical site infection (SSI) risk and resource use in children with nonperforated appendicitis. Establishing the role for postoperative antibiotics may have important implications for infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.
Objective: To compare SSI rates in children with nonperforated appendicitis with GSE findings who did and did not receive postoperative antibiotics.
Background: nonsense alleles generate negligible CFTR protein due to the nonsense mutation: 1) triggering mRNA degradation by nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD), and 2) terminating mRNA translation prematurely. Thus, people with cystic fibrosis (PwCF) who carry nonsense alleles cannot benefit from current modulator drugs, which target CFTR protein. In this study, we examined whether PTBP1 and HNRNPL, two RNA binding proteins that protect a subset of mRNAs with a long 3' untranslated region (UTR) from NMD, similarly affect mRNA.

The RCT tested the effects of a telephone-delivered behavioral intervention on changes in breast cancer survivors' satisfaction with social roles and activities, as compared to an attention control condition. This process evaluation examined (a) fidelity monitoring scores; (b) participants' perceived benefit ratings for gaining confidence, reducing distress, adjusting habits and routines, setting goals, and increasing exercise; and (c) field notes, email communications, and transcripts of coach supervision and debriefing sessions.

Current therapies cannot treat many MPS I-H manifestations. In this study, triamterene, an FDA-approved, antihypertensive diuretic, was found to suppress translation termination at a nonsense mutation associated with MPS I-H.

Methods: Undersampled multi-echo gradient echo imaging employing a dictionary-based compressed-sensing reconstruction and iterative decomposition with echo asymmetry and least-squares-based mapping (IDEAL) was developed, validated, and used to study EAT in obese mice scanned at 7T. Fully sampled and rate 2, 2.
Importance: The clinical significance of gangrenous, suppurative, or exudative (GSE) findings is poorly characterized in children with nonperforated appendicitis.
Objective: To evaluate whether GSE findings in children with nonperforated appendicitis are associated with increased risk of surgical site infections and resource utilization.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This multicenter cohort study used data from the Appendectomy Targeted Database of the American College of Surgeons Pediatric National Surgical Quality Improvement Program, which were augmented with operative report data obtained by supplemental medical record review.
Digital holography has been proposed to fulfill a need for an imaging diagnostic capable of in situ monitoring of surface erosion caused by plasma-material interaction in nuclear fusion devices. A digital holography diagnostic for 3D surface erosion measurement has been developed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory with the goal of deployment on a plasma device. A proof-of-concept in situ demonstration is planned which would involve measurement of plasma erosion on targets exposed to an electrothermal arc source.

Most miRNAs function under tissue-specific contexts, acting as either tumor suppressors in one tissue, promoting oncogenesis in another, or having no apparent role in the regulation of processes associated with the hallmarks of cancer. What has been less clear is the role of miRNAs within cell types of the same tissue and the ability within each cell type to contribute to oncogenesis.

By altering the expression of PTC-containing mRNAs, NMD modulates the inheritance pattern and severity of genetic diseases. NMD also limits the efficiency of suppressing translation termination at PTCs, an emerging therapeutic approach to treat genetic diseases caused by in-frame PTCs (nonsense mutations).

Background And Purpose: Historically Black College and University (HBCU) students often have diverse educational backgrounds and learning needs. We describe the implementation of a group-based assessment (GBA) strategy within a pharmacotherapy course at a HBCU.
Educational Activity And Setting: Ninety second-year pharmacy students participated in the study, completing eight formative GBAs, two summative exams, and a demographic questionnaire.
Introduction: Many breast cancer survivors report an inability to fully participate in activities of daily living after completing cancer treatment. Reduced activity participation is linked to negative consequences for individuals (eg, depression, reduced quality of life) and society (reduced workforce participation). There is currently a lack of evidence-based interventions that directly foster cancer survivors' optimal participation in life roles and activities.

Purpose/objectives: The proportion of Americans with clinically severe obesity has vast implications for the nation's healthcare system since this population have twice as many chronic medical conditions as people with normal weight. Through the use of review of literature, this article (a) describes the types of weight loss programs; (b) reviews the results from studies on effectiveness of bariatric surgery; and (c) identifies recommendations for obesity and bariatric surgery case management programs.
Primary Practice Settings: Disease management companies appear to be concentrating on general weight loss strategies associated with wellness and other condition-specific disease management products, whereas larger national healthcare companies with at-risk and insurance products offer specific bariatric surgery management products.
