Despite significant advancements in multiple myeloma (MM) treatment, including novel therapies and combination strategies, the translation of findings from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) into real-world clinical practice has been associated with several challenges. Specifically, the principles and criterion that shape the current design of MM RCTs have left out a sizable portion of patients that would particularly benefit from trial inclusion. In addition, RCTs may use primary outcomes which only partially cover patient-relevant endpoints important for evaluating treatment efficacy and quality of life.

The current study introduces groundbreaking insights into how organic matter (OM) of the black phosphate (RB-Ph) uniquely influences phosphorus (P) solubility during acetic acid (AA) leaching, expanding our understanding in this crucial area. To highlight such role, the OM of the RB-Ph was treated separately by different procedures including calcination at 550 ℃/4 h (CB-Ph), 30% hydrogen peroxide (HB-Ph) and intensive grinding to nano-sizes (NB-Ph). The mineralogical, chemical and morphological characteristics of phosphatic and non-phosphatic components of these phosphatic materials were carefully examined pre- and post-treatment via different techniques.

Hyaluronidase (hyase) is an endoglycosidase enzyme that degrades hyaluronic acid (HA) and is mostly known to be found in the extracellular matrix of connective tissues. In the current study, eleven bacteria isolates and one actinomycete were isolated from a roaster comb and screened for hyase production. Seven isolates were positive for hyase, and the most potent isolate was selected based on the diameter of the transparent zone.

This case report presents an unusual and challenging case of an 82-year-old female patient who presented with constipation and abdominal pain and was diagnosed with bowel perforation and hydronephrosis caused by an ingested chicken wishbone. This patient was treated with emergency laparotomy and bowel sigmoid resection. She made a good recovery and was discharged home.

High-dose melphalan followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) remains the standard of care for transplant-eligible patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM). Achievement of complete response (CR) and minimal residual disease (MRD) negativity are associated with improved progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). With superior triplet- and quadruplet-based induction regimens, a higher proportion of patients are achieving deep responses of at least a very good partial response (VGPR) or better.

This multicenter study aimed to describe peri-intubation cardiac arrest in paediatric cardiac patients with significant (moderate or severe) systolic dysfunction of the systemic ventricle. We retrospectively reviewed 292 patients who received a second line of therapy post ASCT for their light chain amyloidosis. Most patients (40%) were treated with an alkylator + PI ± dex or PI ± dex followed by an alkylator + 2nd-gen IMiD ± dex or 2nd-gen IMiD ± dex (26%), an alkylator ± steroid or steroid monotherapy (19%), a 2nd-gen IMiD + PI ± dex (6%), an alkylator + thalidomide ± dex (5%), or daratumumab-based therapy (4%). The rate of CR or VGPR was 70% among the daratumumab-based group, 62% in the alkylator + PI ± dex or PI ± dex group, 55% in the alkylator + 2nd-gen IMiD ± dex or 2nd-gen IMiD ± dex group, 47% in the 2nd-gen IMiD + PI ± dex group, 24% in the alkylator ± steroid or steroid monotherapy group, and 18% in the alkylator + thalidomide ± dex group.

Sickle cell trait (SCT) is typically an asymptomatic carrier state, but sickling complications can occur under extreme conditions. Priapism is known to be associated with sickle cell disease (SCD); The link with SCT is less well established. We report the case of a 19-year-old man with SCT presenting with prolonged priapism and a refractory, stuttering course requiring multiple invasive procedures over a 5-day period with no clear alternative triggers.

Background: This report describes 9 high-risk neonates and infants with hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) who were stabilized with a combined hybrid approach and ventricular assist device (VAD) insertion (HYBRID+VAD) in preparation for heart transplantation.

Methods: A total of 9 patients with HLHS (7 neonates, 2 infants) presented with anatomic or physiologic features associated with an increased risk for conventional univentricular palliation with the Norwood operation (large coronary sinusoids or fistulas, severe tricuspid regurgitation, cardiogenic shock, restrictive atrial septum). These patients underwent combined VAD insertion (Berlin EXCOR, Berlin Heart, Inc, Berlin, Germany) and Stage 1 hybrid palliation (application of bilateral pulmonary bands, stent placement in the patent arterial duct, and atrial septectomy if needed).

Saddle pulmonary embolism (PE) remains a challenge to diagnose and manage in pediatric patients. Current literature encourages early consideration of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) in high-risk PE patients with impending right ventricular failure.
