This paper deals with the hydrological variability effects on the primary commercial fish species inhabiting the main channel and the floodplain of the large Paraná River in its middle reaches in Argentina. Analysing more than eight decades (1935-2016) of information on the most frequent and abundant commercial species in conjunction with hydrological levels and temperature, our results show that spring-summer floods of a certain magnitude (c. 6 m) and durations (> 80 days) are crucial for sustaining commercial fisheries.

Transient receptor potential vanilloid 3 (TRPV3) is a member of the TRP (Transient Receptor Potential) super-family. It is a relatively underexplored member of the thermo-TRP sub-family (Figure 1), however, genetic mutations and use of gene knock-outs and selective pharmacological tools are helping to provide insights into its role and therapeutic potential. TRPV3 is highly expressed in skin, where it is implicated in skin physiology and pathophysiology, thermo-sensing and nociception.

Kappa opioid receptors and their endogenous neuropeptide ligand, dynorphin A, are densely localized in limbic and cortical areas comprising the brain reward system, and appear to play a key role in modulating stress and mood. Growing literature indicates that kappa receptor antagonists may be beneficial in the treatment of mood and addictive disorders. However, existing literature on kappa receptor antagonists has used extensively JDTic and nor-BNI which exhibit long-lasting pharmacokinetic properties that complicate experimental design and interpretation of results.

In humans, kappa opioid receptor agonists produce, among other effects, sedation and difficulty concentrating, suggesting that they may disrupt attention. The purpose of the present studies was therefore to evaluate the effects of kappa opioid receptor agonists on attention as assessed by a 5-choice serial reaction time task in rats. The kappa opioid receptor agonists (+)-U69,593 (0.

A major purpose of the present studies was to determine the effects of varying the relative frequency, or bias, of stimulus presentation at different locations in a five-choice serial reaction time attention task. Training sessions were conducted in which the stimulus duration was held constant at 2 s and, initially, stimuli were presented with equal probability above each of the levers. During testing sessions, however, stimulus duration was either 0.

The purpose of the present study was to explore the analgesic effects of the low voltage-activated T-type Ca2+ channel blockers ethosuximide, trimethadione, and mibefradil in persistent and acute nociceptive tests. The anticonvulsant effects of the compounds were also determined in the intravenous pentylenetetrazol seizure model. Following intraperitoneal administration, ethosuximide and trimethadione dose-dependently reversed capsaicin-induced mechanical hyperalgesia.

Group II (mGluR2/3) metabotropic glutamate receptors have been implicated in the mechanisms of persistent pain states. In the present study, the effects of the selective group II metabotropic glutamate receptor agonists LY379268 and LY389795 were evaluated in the formalin test, carrageenan-induced thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia, and capsaicin-induced mechanical allodynia in rats. The agonists LY379268 and LY389795 produced dose-dependent decreases in formalin-induced behaviors that were antagonized by the mGlu2/3 receptor antagonist LY341495.

The purpose of the present studies was to compare anticonvulsant drugs with diverse mechanisms of action in a persistent pain model, the formalin test. In addition, the anticonvulsant effects of the compounds were determined in the threshold electroshock tonic seizure test and the 6-Hz limbic seizure test. The effects of the compounds were also determined on locomotor activity.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study evaluated whether muscarinic receptor agonists could counteract PPI disruptions caused by dopamine receptor agonist apomorphine in male rats, finding that several muscarinic agonists were effective in reversing these disruptions.
  • * Results suggest a functional interaction between muscarinic cholinergic and dopaminergic systems in modulating PPI, with specific agonists showing potential in treating PPI-related deficiencies.

Incidence rates of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHLs) have nearly doubled in recent decades. Understanding the reasons behind these trends will require detailed surveillance and epidemiological study of NHL subtypes in large populations, using cancer registry or other multicenter data. However, little is known regarding the reliability of NHL diagnosis and subtype classification in such data, despite implications for the accuracy of incidence statistics and studies.

We have retrospectively evaluated the use of TNM in patients referred to our clinic for radiation treatment between 1979 and 1990. The percentage of TX-cases (unknown and not exactly classified primaries) decreased from 22% in 1979 to 3% in 1990 and was lowest in tumors treated according to well-defined treatment protocols (e.g.

In the second World Health Organization MONItoring Trends and Determinants in CArdiovascular Disease (MONICA) Augsburg survey in 1989-1990 (n = 4,940), the association between nephelometric plasma fibrinogen level and lifestyle-related potential determinants was assessed in 4,434 subjects aged 25-74 years (89.8% of participants). Irrespective of pregnancy and the use of oral contraceptives, crude fibrinogen values were consistently higher in women than in men of all ages (age-standardized difference, 12.

Data from the MONICA (Monitoring Trends and Determinants in Cardiovascular Disease) Augsburg cohort were used to study the effect of weight change on changes in serum levels of total and high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol. Weight gain was associated with rising levels of total cholesterol and falling levels of high-density-lipoprotein cholesterol in both sexes, more so in men than in women. Moreover, these relationships weakened with advancing age in women, but not in men.

Directly standardized mortality rates are examples of weighted sums of Poisson rate parameters. If the numbers of events are large then normal approximations can be used to calculate confidence intervals, but these are inadequate if the numbers are small. We present a method for obtaining approximate confidence limits for the weighted sum of Poisson parameters as linear functions of the confidence limits for a single Poisson parameter, the unweighted sum.

Experiments carried out using the bioenergy gold test showed that a bioradiant subject working on water without touching, is able to modify the evolution of the gold colloid generated by chemical reaction in the treated water sample. To complete these researches, experiments were carried out on 50 pranotherapeutic practitioners and on 50 normal subjects. Statistical analysis shows that the results in normal subjects differ from those in the pranotherapeutic practitioners.
