Introduction: This study was conducted to establish the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of intravenous vinorelbine and on the determined dose to assess efficacy and safety in patients with metastatic breast cancer previously treated with epirubicin.

Patients And Methods: Patients had histologically proven breast cancer and had received a prior epirubicin based regimen either adjuvant or as first line therapy for advanced disease. Vinorelbine was administered intravenously day 1 and 8 in a 3 weeks' schedule.

Docetaxel-related skin toxicity, oral and gastrointestinal mucosal toxicity, and changes in blood cell counts were investigated as predictive factors for major infections in 143 women treated with 3-weekly docetaxel (100 mg/m2) as second-line therapy for metastatic breast cancer in a randomized trial. Each patient with a major infection (n = 37) was compared with two controls. Skin toxicity (odds ratio 2.

In univariate analyses of patients with metastatic testicular germ cell tumours (TGCT), both the International Germ Cell Consensus Classification (IGCCC) and serum lactate dehydrogenase (S-LD) isoenzyme 1 catalytic concentration (S-LD-1) significantly predicted survival. In complementary analyses of 81 patients with metastatic TGCT, S-LD and S-LD-1 classified the prognosis differently for 23 patients. In multivariate Cox hazard analyses of risk factors, only IGCCC and S-LD-1 predicted the prognosis (p=0.

The effect of different dose intensities of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in advanced colorectal cancer was investigated. A total of 312 patients were randomized to receive 400 mg/m2 (group A), 500 mg/m2 (group B) or 600 mg/m2 (group C) of 5-FU with leucovorin 60 mg/m2 on two consecutive days every second week. Treatment continued to progression.

Serum lactate dehydrogenase isoenzyme I catalytic concentration (S-LD-1) was measured in patients with testicular seminoma clinical stage I followed with surveillance after orchiectomy. The serum samples were obtained before orchiectomy in 110 patients (group A) and soon after orchiectomy in 55 patients (group B). In group A, 60 patients (55%) had elevated S-LD-1 and 10 patients (9%) had elevated serum human chorionic gonadotropin concentrations (S-hCG).
