The present paper describes an extremely efficient, reproducible and inexpensive chemical handling method for converting the nuclear wastes contaminated by radioactive cesium to stable inorganic crystal, pollucite (CsAlSiO), which is promising as a form of the final storage. In this processing, the clays are used as a source for aluminum and silicon, and it is important to get a well-mixed homogenous solution by the aid of some heat and pressure. The present method proposes the use of ethylene glycol as a solvent, rather than water.

These proteinases have also been implicated in tissue repair and regeneration. Our previous studies have demonstrated that MMP-3 elicits stimulatory effects on the proliferation and the migration of endothelial cells as well as anti-apoptotic effects on these cells in vitro.

A high resolving power in the excitation channel was ensured by use of monochromatic synchrotron radiation provided by BESSY II, where the soft X-ray emission spectra were recorded as well. In the hard X-ray range, emission measurements were performed at SPring-8.

So far, the technique has usually been performed by a 2D positional scan of a sample against a collimated beam. However, the total measuring time can become quite long, since a number of scanning points are needed in order to obtain a high-quality image.

The employment of an efficient wavelength-dispersive spectrometer rather than a conventional Si(Li) detector, as well as the use of a quasi-monochromatic undulator X-ray source, completely changed the quality of X-ray florescence spectra. The energy resolution is 20 times better, which effectively contributes to reducing the low-energy tail of the scattering background and to separating neighboring X-ray florescence peaks.

Transverse sections were prepared from the root region of teeth. Samples, each 30 microm thick, were abraded in sequence from the cementum surface and the cemento-dentine junction by an abrasive micro-sampling technique.

Kalpha and Kbeta X-ray fluorescence spectra for trace metals have been collected by a Ge(220) analyzing crystal with a Rowland radius of 150 mm, under monochromatic X-ray excitation at the undulator beamline at the SPring-8. The energy resolution is approximately 10 eV for most of the K lines for 3d transition metals.

Because of a desire to provide the most suitable treatment for hemodialysis patients, psychological, physical and social problems influencing psychiatric conditions of the patients were studied. One hundred hemodialysis inpatients were compared in each group divided by their characteristics, i.e.

The plasma renin activities of these subjects in the preoperative state were rather low, without any response to the renin releasing test. Plasma aldosterone was, however, significantly high and showed a tendency to declineits value when the subject was in an upright position.

For the purpose of studying the metabolism of adrenocortical steroids in primary aldosteronism, diurnal variation and the effect of dexamethasone were examined in four patients. The circadian rhythm of cortisol was observed in plasma aldosterone and corticosterone in all cases in the preoperative state. With regards to plasma progesterone, 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone and dehydroepiandrosterone-sulfate, however, no demonstrable change was noted.
