We examined the relationship between a researcher-rated and a self-report method of insight assessment in patients with schizophrenia. Previous research has established that a moderate correlation exists between several researcher-rated and self-report insight scales. Hence, we wanted to investigate this association using another combination of assessment techniques.

In the present study, we describe a computational procedure to identify miRNA genes conserved in more than one genome. Applying this program, known as MiRscan, together with molecular identification and validation methods, we have identified most of the miRNA genes in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.

We find that miRNAs are also present in plants, indicating that this class of noncoding RNA arose early in eukaryotic evolution. In this paper 16 Arabidopsis miRNAs are described, many of which have differential expression patterns in development.

Currently, several methods are being developed to extend this technique to proteins. In principle, selection methods could be applied to any library whose members can be replicated.
