Medical-legal-social science research has documented that nongenital and/or anogenital injuries play a significant role throughout the criminal justice system from victims reporting to judges determining the length of a sentence. What remains an open question is whether the documentation of anogenital injury influences women's willingness to engage in the criminal justice system. A sample of women age 21 years and older residing in an urban area were asked about willingness to report to police, file charges, and work with the courts to prosecute after rape.

Allosteric modulators of mammalian cN-II did not activate LpcN-II although GTP, GDP and the substrate GMP were specific activators. The structure presented here is the first representative of bacterial protein domain family PF14203 (currently 180 members) of unknown function (DUF4319) and reveals that the side-chains of the only two strictly conserved residues (Glu 8 and Lys 48) form a salt bridge. Moreover, these two residues are located in the vicinity of the largest surface cleft which is predicted to contribute to a surface area involved in protein-protein interactions.

Pharmacometabonomics has been used to predict drug metabolism, pharmacokinetics (PK), drug safety and drug efficacy in both animals and humans and is complementary to both pharmacogenomics (PGx) and pharmacoproteomics.
Methods: A literature review using the search terms pharmacometabonomics, pharmacometabolomics, pharmaco-metabonomics, pharmaco-metabolomics and the singular form of all those terms was conducted in October 2012 using PubMed and Web of Science.
Malonyl-coenzyme A decarboxylase (MCD) is found from bacteria to humans, has important roles in regulating fatty acid metabolism and food intake, and is an attractive target for drug discovery. We report here four crystal structures of MCD from human, Rhodopseudomonas palustris, Agrobacterium vitis, and Cupriavidus metallidurans at up to 2.3 Å resolution.

Recently, free phenytoin assay on the TDx analyzer was discontinued by the Abbott Laboratories, but Roche Diagnostics has an assay for the determination of free phenytoin.
Methods: Because a clinical laboratory may not have an instrument for using Roche free phenytoin assay, we studied the possibility of determining free phenytoin using particle-enhanced turbidimetric inhibition immunoassay (PETINIA) total phenytoin assay on the Vista 1500 analyzer by comparing free phenytoin values obtained by Roche assay and Hitachi 917 analyzer with values obtained by using PETINIA assay.
The screening files of many large companies, including Pfizer, have grown considerably due to internal chemistry efforts, company mergers and acquisitions, external contracted synthesis, or compound purchase schemes. In order to screen the targets of interest in a cost-effective fashion, we devised an easy-to-assemble, plate-based diversity subset (PBDS) that represents almost the entire computed chemical space of the screening file whilst comprising only a fraction of the plates in the collection. In order to create this file, we developed new design principles for the quality assessment of screening plates: the Rule of 40 (Ro40) and a plate selection process that insured excellent coverage of both library chemistry and legacy chemistry space.

Using a limited access, voluntary consumption paradigm, we recently demonstrated that moderate prenatal alcohol exposure (MPAE) is associated with dentate gyrus-dependent learning and memory deficits that are manifested in adulthood. Here, we identified a novel mechanism that may underlie this effect of MPAE.

The prevalence of germline TP53 mutations in children diagnosed with ACC ranges from 50-97%. Although existing criteria advocate for TP53 testing in all patients with ACC regardless of age at diagnosis, the overall prevalence of germline mutations in patients diagnosed with ACC has not been well studied.

The structure presented here is the first representative for the large protein domain family PF03457 (currently 742 members) of HA domains. Comparison with structurally similar proteins supports the hypothesis that HA domains bind to DNA and that binding specificity varies greatly within the family of HA domains constituting PF03457.

The structures have an extra α-helix compared to the archetypical ACP from Escherichia coli, which has four helices, resulting in a larger opening to the hydrophobic cavity. Chemical shift differences between apo- and holo-RpAcpXL indicated some differences in the hinge region between α2 and α3 and in the hydrophobic cavity environment, but corresponding changes in nuclear Overhauser effect cross-peak patterns were not detected.

Marked inter-animal variability in central nervous system (CNS) toxicity was identified following administration of a high dose of INH, which enabled characterization of CNS responders and CNS non-responders. High-resolution post-dose urinary ¹H NMR spectra were modeled both by their xenobiotic and endogenous metabolic information sets, enabling simultaneous identification of the differential metabolic fate of INH and its associated endogenous metabolic consequences in CNS responders and CNS non-responders.
